The new K series is not tunable thus far. I'd assume 'they' are trying to market for them.

Exactly. The JnR product seems to be working great. If I had the performance mods already I would have gotten one myself. For the gains that I'm seeing their price is just fine.

I don't know. When the product is announced I guess. Like I said I was told it's two months away, it's working, it's just being perfected.

And with a big release like that from a bigger company it will probably be in magazines. Lol

He told me all Honda v6s to date. So if you're engine has a Honda stamp and has 6 cylinders, this *should* work.

Not entirely sure about that though as different cars may have the same engines but the ecu does totally different other things.

Wish I knew more.

I'm not understanding why said company is resorting to secrecy for this product. I'd have to think they have some doubts if they haven't mentioned anything to the public yet. But I'm not gonna pry. Instead, I will try to wait patiently. Otherwise, my Paypal account is ready.

Actually after thinking about what I just said I may have been saying this all wrong

Basically I believe they have figured out the newer Honda ecu code or whatever. Decrypted it. So not just our ecu but all.

And what do you mean not keep it secret? Seems like the wise thing to do IMHO.

I just meant keeping it hush and only tell good friends, which is how you found out. I would think notice of such a product would accumulate more 'ready' buyers. It'd also deter some from buying other similar products. However, I could also see why they'd want to keep it unknown. I just hope it's for real!

clinging to the hope that this turns out the way the turbo thread did.

I will say I don't buy into the logic that just because the 3g has been out since 2004 and we have no Hondata, Flashpro, etc. etc. because of a self-learning ECU, or difficult decryption process, that no one is going to bring anything to market as a result of that. In my mind, that gives me all the more reason to understand why it would take so long in the first place - figuring out the code and overcoming those limitations.

Couple that with the fact that the 3g market is a lot smaller than other cars with many more performance options, means fewer companies on the ball, and perhaps even fewer resources going into the R&D with the companies that DO want to get involved - this equates to a longer time to bring to market.

i think i know who it is, only because my good friend(tuner) was talking to someone about something new for k-series owners(Not Hondata). Now unless someone else is also working on something secretly, then i know who it is also. But im not saying anything because i dont know for sure.

If this comes to fruition at the stated price point, the market will explode for this platform. And it should be reasonable to get it tuned as well. If I can buy this, get it tuned and get a new J Pipe for $1500-1600, I'll be happier than a pig in shit.

I agree with the prospective buyer thing. But I think since this is supposedly such a big deal they probably want to keep it under wraps until it's solid.

I know because a good friend of mine is a licensed tuner/distributor/friend of the lead designer/owner or whatever.

I think our cars or just now getting to their prime "modding" stages. 3Gs are about 8 years old, the prices are much more obtainable, etc. Which means the Js are much cheaper and prevalent which means more and more swaps.

I mean come on it pisses me off. All these 18 year olds are getting type-s for $6k less then what I bought my base for.

about the flashing, as its mentioned the ECU will rewrite itself for optimal driving/mpg/etc....but am not doubting you.....

also explain me this: i pay $750 (say) for an ECU flash....now that i got bigger injectors/intake/jpipe/PCD's.....what happens to my flash ??? will they give me a new map ? will the flash work its magic an "adjust" to the new mods ? will i have to get a reflash and pay another $750 ???

It's like Hondata as far as I know. Basically a small module you purchase, along with the software license, and away you go. Although looking at their current offerings the prices are much cheaper then $750. I do believe autotuning is a feature. As far as redoing it though, no, it won't need reflashed, it will just need retuned. Which I believe is via a USB port.

Haven't you guys ever flashed a P series ecu? Flash it once, tune it as many times as you want. Hell make different tunes for different purposes.

As far as the learning ECU I have no idea. That's why I argued and argued in disbelief. But he was very confident and that's probably what the "breakthrough" is.

But let's say if they now KNOW what every little piece of binary code in the ECU means then I would assume their options are fairly endless as far as tuning goes.

Don't listen to me though as I know very little about tuning and even less about this product. I just know it's coming.

I wouldn't be suprised if they finally cracked it. The OEM ecu does say rewritable on it if you looking it up on the honda/acura part list, but only honda had the code to reflash it with stock parameter.

I'm assuming, and this is a BIG assumption so if I'm way off forgive me I mean no disrespect, that JnR decided it was best to go the "long" way around. Intercept the engines signals and send their own, all the while letting the stock ECU handle everything else. I'm sure it's a zillion times more complicated then that but that's what I make of it.

This won't be anything like that.

thats what worries me.....if the ECU autotunes, you will loose all your flash data + map....remember this is not a piggy back system.....if the ECU rewrites the map, your changes are lost....

eager to see how this progresses....none the less a great thread and venture maharajamd !!!

Also, and once again I know nothing, wouldn't it be possible to pretty much make the ecu NOT be a 'learning' ecu? Set your maps and parameters in stone for the engine and let the ecu run the rest of the car? I mean with full access to the unit...

When I talked to him he reminded me about tuning my jdm h22 back in the day. He said there was a point in time when he knew he was looking at the maps in the binary code. They had that kind of access and knowledge of those ECUs. Looking and ones and zeroes and could tell what was what. Maybe they finally have the rosetta stone to translate our ones and zeroes.

Even I'd be interested in this...might open a pandora's box for other mods for me...but VERY doable. Especially if it allows you to access the software via OBDII port and is sub $750. NICE.
