Don't remove your rear mufflers. Sounds like shit.

I know because I just did it today.

Our XLR8 exhaust system is available! Its T304 stainless, made in America, mandrel bent on CNC machinery to ensure the best fit. It's right at the top of your price cap, but its a high quality piece that will give you the deeper exotic tone, with minimal drone at low RPM's. It comes in both resonated and non-resonated.

PM me for quotes, or feel free to check it out at the link below!

XLR8 Exhaust Systems - Excelerate Performance - European, Exotic and Japanese Performance Specialists!!

Good luck!

You stated that you want something mellow. I think that the Tanabe Medallion Touring exhaust is the best "mellow" upgrade from stock. Based on the research I've done, this exhaust is made in Japan, weighs a lot less than stock, makes some additional hp, and does not drone at hwy speeds.

The Tanabe Medallion Touring is definitely on the mellow side of aftermarket; and as 06_TL_A-spec stated, they are very low on drone. Tanabe has designed them to be exactly that, oriented to the customer who wants a exhaust, but doesn't want to hear too much. The build quality is nice, the price isn't bad, and I have yet to hear any complaints from what we have sold!

We have them on our site! Feel free to take a look: T70141 - Tanabe Medalian Exhaust - Medalion Touring - Excelerate's Honda & Acura Store - Japanese Performance Specialist

PM me if you have any questions or if there is something I can do for you!

I did the resonator delete, but kept my catalyst and it has the gurgle and mellow sound you want , I paid 60 bucks, and for what I paid and what it sounds like is great in my opinion, sounds beasty and feels a little lighter or it might just be me

Question. This might be super basic but how did you replace your resonator for only 60 bucks? Did you take it to a shop or do it yourself. I haven't done any exhaust work for a long time but last time I was under my car I could see that mine is getting pretty crusty and rusted, specifically at the back of the J-pipe.

exhaust shop.
they cut the mid-muffler/resonator and weld a straight pipe

the back of the jpipe+third cat ALWAYS gets rusty. if you think about it, it's low hanging fruit...which gets subjected to ALL kinds of elements of the road and weather.

I recommend the XLR8 quad set up, I love mine and get compliments often.

I initially went with the non-res, but ended up adding a resonator

non-res

^ Where did they welded the resonator at? The guy who was suppose to weld mine said it didn't fit. He tried to place it where the original resonator went.

I also welded in a bigger resonator than the xlr8 resonator (too loud once I added HFPCs). It's just past the third cat location going towards the rear of the car

I'm in LA there's a literally a muffler shop / tire shop almost every 3 blocks near my house, they straight piped where the resonator was , took no longer than 20 min, I've seen several TLs with over priced exhaust systems and don't give it that extra push, our cars are heavy as is so adding more doesn't help, everyone should keep that in mind though, I have 15 inch sub with a small box that I want to drop into and I haven't for the same reason lol

So you place yours where the xlr8 resonator was at, correct?

i had one xlr8 muffler go bad on me and i had to get a replacement sent, there was a horrible rattle. and i know other members who have had the same issues with xlr8. it's not a common issue for their exhausts but i have heard of a few cases of the muffler rattle with their exhaust. that being said, i love their exhausts and if it happens again i'll probably just buy another muffler from them. being running their exhaust since 2011

best way to know for sure is to go an exhaust shop and have them use a stethoscope while you go through different rpms and they can tell you exactly what's wrong

no definitely know it was the resonator, both my mufflers are still there, no rattle , it doesn't sound like something is in there, I have been racing lately lol and everyone that I've gone up against love the way my TL sounds, they think I'm running a 350z exhaust system, or MagnaFlow, but its just a resonator delete, it's not too loud no overkill whatsoever, it has a great sound for what it is, between 2ND and 3rd gear I love it lol 4th still has it but fadeshe away once in 5th, sorry no 6 yet lol

Sorry if I didn't explain it right. My mufflers are still solid after 7 years. This is the resonator I initially try to install at first was told it would hit the heat shield and cause a rattle:

I also added an additional Resonator. HFPC> Jpipe> Catback w/resonator -quad-tip

I did not replace the resonator, I left it on the cat-back, I added an additional Resonator (18" Vibrant super quiet) in the spot where the mid muffler would have been on a OEM setup)

The additional resonator was tig welded into the catback. It sounds good. My goal was to maximize exhaust flow, while trying to minimize any drastic increases in exhaust tone/rasp.

Mission accomplished.

ah got it haha.

i'd go to another exhaust shop. they should be able to fit any resonator in there, and just use straight pipe to fill in "the gaps" if they can't install it right next to the cat. there should be no issues with the heat shield. i'm now on my 3rd type of resonator all in that same location (first xlr8 resonator, then a magnaflow, then a smaller magnaflow) and they weren't all the same size

I have one on my G35 sedan. Minimal drone at freeway speeds (70-80 here in Texas), sounds great at start-up, idle, putting around and full throttle. However, IMO at part throttle its a bit loud...but I think that's just me. When I had it installed, the guy at the muffler shop said "well, maybe it will get louder when it breaks in". Might swap out the resonator with a larger one. However, fit and finish is excellent throughout.

I loved how my Tanabe Medallion setup sounded - much nicer than stock, but not as aggressive as some of the other options out there.
