Exhaust for '08 TL base

Good Afternoon Gents,

Hope all is well. Long time lurker, this will be my first post. First off many thanks to you guys as I am pretty much a noob when it comes to auto mechanics but with all of your awesome D.I.Y I have been able to tackle quite a few issues on my own.

Now onto my question. My car is pretty much stock other than some rims, CAI and a few other cosmetic mods. I first wanted to lower but being from Montreal and this being my DD, the roads suck and snow for 6 months of the year is quite shitty as well. I then looked at the whole throttle body and exhaust manifold swap to the new TL but this isn't something I can tackle on my own and I haven't been able to find a shop around here who is familiar with the J series enough for me to trust them. I did install a custom exhaust I got from a friends TL which lasted about 3 weeks until I got pulled over..no beuno and I'm back to stock exhaust.

It now seems that the only thing left that could work is a new full exhaust set up. I have seen a few from here (RV6,XLR8,ATLP). I am looking to get more of a deep tone out of my exhaust. Feel free to chime in on which you prefer. Ultimately I need an exhaust that will first and foremost pass any inspection the cops try to throw at me. In Montreal we don't have a state inspection every year or so but cops here will pull you over for any reason especially if they hear something louder than they normally are use to. I'm not worried on the loud front as from most vids I have seen, none of these exhausts are deafening. My issue is if they decide to send me in for an inspection will my car pass? I can't have any check engine lights and my car pretty much needs to behave the same as when it was stock( they don't seem to care much about how loud your exhaust is just as long as it's done properly. The cops will also pull you over an stick a ruler in your exhaust to determine something( I have yet to find out what they are looking for )

I apologize in advance for the lengthy post and I know you guys aren't familiar with the laws here in MTL but any info you guys can provide in to this would be greatly appreciated. Pretty much I need to know which Exhaust you would go with and will this exhaust be identical in set up and function as the stock exhaust( other than more loud).

I have ATLP base exhaust with stock jpipe. The exhaust note is very deep and unique. I personally love it. And of course, the ATLP base tips are awesome.

xlr8 v2 j pipe deletes the un monitored 3rd cat so no engine light will be triggered.

ATLP base tips resonated exhaust with Jpipe since you have a base model. That would be my choice if I didn't have the RV6 exhaust with type-s bumper.

All the exhausts are good choices, it comes down to what you like looks, sound and finally what you want to spend.

Might want to also check out the new EndlessRPM catback, thread is here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/perform...fflers-919362/

Sale link is here:

EndLessRPM 2004-2008 ACURA TL catback (single tips) - FREE shipping (PRESALE)-DEPOSIT (Half) - EndLess RPM

Since its a Magnaflow setup, its going to be deeper and "throatier" than the XLR8 for example, which tends to be a little higher pitched and exotic-sounding (as many have pointed out, very GTR like). The Magnaflow still has a fairly aggressive sound, but with an overall lower frequency range.

I definitely recommend getting our V2 J-Pipe and our XLR8 exhuast. Most people get the J-Pipe for performance gains, as it deletes the third cat (which is not monitored) and will free up a good amount of horsepower. It will add a nice growl to your exhaust tone, but if you really want something more for sound I recommend going with our XLR8 catback exhaust.

You'll get a few horsepower from our catback, but what you'll really notice is an incredible exotic sound. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions, or check out our website for details and pricing:

Thanks for all the help guys. I knew I was taking a shot in the sark on this one as most of you probably don't know of the restictions we have here in MTL. From what I see all the setups will perform much better than stock but will function the same so I should be good to go and will be putting in a purchase for a new full exhaust. Thanks again for the help .

When are you guys going to come out with a 3" XLR8 Exhaust system? Since ATLP and RV6 has one.

At this time we don't have any plans to release a 3" exhaust system.
