hydrolock
I would like to hear from someone who has experienced hydrolock of their TL with a AEM cai. If so, how did it happen? Does it really have to be submerged as AEM says it does in order for this to happen? Can it happen say driving through a heavy thunderstorm? I'm considering replacing my stock intake on my type S with one, but I'm a little nervous. I'd like to hear some real life stories about the risk and not some scripted babble from a sales rep just trying to make a deal. Thanks guys!
Oh, I'm new here btw. Just got rid of my 2008 Cobalt SS turbo (not a bad car) and picked up an 08 kinetic blue pearl type S with 16K miles and A-spec rims and lip kit. Never realized what I was missing out on until now!

^^^ I have had the AEM CAI for 90K miles (85K+)....no problems....i live in the midwest and have driven thro insane thunderstorms and tornado warnings (rain comes with tornados) and no problems.....
what is hydrolock ?
when the water enters your intake and ends up in your engine along with the Air Fuel mixture....water does not compress as the AF mixture....hence results in bent valves/rods/etc....
the ONLY way you will hydolock your engine is if your sitting in ~2 feet of water (~1.5 if lowered) and stomp on the gas....if you end up in the middle of the puddle and turn your car off NOTHING will happen....
but yeah as i said, been using the AEM V1 CAI since 90K miles....and i got it from Josh....he hooked me up when i got the CAI and P2R spacer+gasket...hope this helps...

i have the AEM CAI V1...no issues. been on my car since it was 4 months old. been through plenty of rain storms and no issues. just don't go driving in to 12 + inch deep puddles or flooded roads and you'll be fine. the intake filter is probably about 10 inches above the ground....maybe more. also depends if you're lowered. if the water is above your bumper grills...you might be in trouble. the intake filter sits pretty just behind the one on the driver's side.
BTW josh is our excelerate performance vendor. good guy...he'll answer any questions you might have about anything.

I had a 94 LS Integra that Hydrolocked. But my dumb ass drove through an area known to get flooded in San Antonio. I was 18 and destroyed that car so it was bound to happen. I believe I drove through about 6 to 8 inches of water, and my car was lowered 1 inch. IIRC the Integra CAI sits in front of the driver side wheel so I think the general location of it was just bad in general. If the TL CAI sits behind the wheel, I just might take a purchase of a CAI into consideration.

busted LOL....i wanted to say ~3-4 inches....gotta included the mad JDM VIP crowd yo LOL
in the V2 the piping is a little bigger...but it wont make a difference unless you have a bored TB...coz that is finally what "decides" how much air is flowing through....

^^^ i thought he was talking about performance only....
either way, you are correct....they do sound different....I have heard from other members that the V2 does sound a tad bit more louder/aggressive....
