Emissions Test

OKay.. so I'm suppose to be getting my PCD and J-pipe today. I'm not sure if I should get my car inspected and then go ahead and put on the PCDs, it's not actually due untill December but id rather not have to put the cats on in the winter..

Im in NY, so i'm not sure if anyone has experience and a lot fo times I've just dropped off my car and came back so I dont know what they checked. I know I did go to a small shop one time and the guy just checked my lights and plugged it in and called it good.... anyone got experience in NY state?

It depends on whether or not they do visual and / or sniffer tests in NY. A search of your local laws would probably turn up the answer. For many states, as long as you aren't showing a CEL when they hook your car up to a computer then you pass fine.

You can also ask around and find a shady shop that's willing to pass you if you slip them an extra $20. This is the route I usually take :P

No sniffers in NY. They just plug into your OBD II port and if the de-foulers are working, you should be fine.

Bro just do it now and get the car checked out. Save you some time and another trip back to the inspection station. After your in the clear just mod the hell out of it and wait for the next one to come up.

I need to move to NY. I'm used to paying between $200-$600 every other year for a smog certificate. CA sucks when it comes to smog.

if you only do inspection every 2 years, why not? it takes about 45 mins to swap the PCD with Cats. Then just reinstall them after inspection...1.5 hrs once in 2 years, dont think its worth it? Thats what i would do if i lived in CA

As long as they don't look under the car. It will pass emissions just fine. But since it's before the 3rd cat it would need an EO number which I'm sure it doesn't have. This is not the 3rd cat delete J-pipe, is it?

As long as it's not super shiny and stands out you will be fine.

Because I take the smog guy my registration and come back at the end of the day to pick up my certificate. The car never moves out of my garage. Even $600 is not worth the tech's time unless he's desperate when you consider the potential $20,000 fine and revoked license if he got caught.

your okay unless they put your car on the lift and check for the 3rd cat. then your screwed. What I was thinking was getting the v3 and leaving on the cat but chopping up the exhaust. But I was like screw it. Found a ATLP v1 and getting a magnaflow catback. So the stock cat is going to be left alone. Until I move out of state for pharmacy school.
