Driving without mufflers
Driving without mufflers
Ok well I'm currently in the process of getting my ATLP tips powdercoated, which means i'm running my exhaust without mufflers. Basically all exhaust gases are coming out of the y-pipe underneath the trunk.
My question is this: Is this bad for the car? Other than the loss of power, can this be doing any permanent damage? My guess is
but it's better to ask...
On a side note, i've been having a LOT of fun driving without mufflers. Car sounds like a damn jet.

I dont think your losing any power, if anything, your gaining. I don' t think any damage can happen except you get a ticket for loud exhaust lol. You should take a video of what it sounds like.
I'll take a video tomorrow. Honestly it sounds INSANE.
What i love about LA is that a loud exhaust is just a $15 fix-it ticket...
Well...it depends on the situation, whether the cop wants to be a total dickhead....whether you're at a ricer meet showing off....
Usually it's a fix-it ticket, just need to pay ~$15 for court fees.
My school cop didn't care at all when I revved my engine for him today. He just laughed...if only all cops can be like him...

It's all 100% in your head. You may have gained a few top end hp making the low end feel weaker. Your primary cats are doing a great job at providing backpressure whether you want it or not.
Be careful though. If you try this without at least the cat installed, the decreased backpressure may cause exhaust valves to burn up due to an excessively lean mixture.
What about if I get the RichieV6 J-pipe and res test pipe?I wouldn't mind selling my ATLP and going custom now...

When you change things, especially exhaust, it messes with your perception. I've changed things on my car where it felt faster for sure and then ran slower at the track.
If you did the J-pipe and all 3 test pipes, there's a chance of losing low end but chances are you're going to gain power everywhere in the powerband. I'm a little scared to say it for sure won't hurt low end so I'll say it's not likely. In fact, I'll say it's more likely you're going to gain low and top end. How's that for confusing?
Errr, I change my mind every 10 minutes about whether I should keep it like this or not....but it seems like the cons outweigh the pros.
I mean, it is literally impossible to hold a conversation with the person sitting in the passenger seat. I had 5 people in the car yesterday and the entire time they were complaining about how the exhaust was giving them headaches and a massage at the same time lol.
Pros:
-Fucking loud
-HP increase
-Fucking loud
-Everyone turns around whenever I hit the gas.
Cons:
-Cops, cops, cops
-Inability to hear anything, especially with windows down.
-Scares small children and dogs (hehe)
-Worse MPG from always flooring it.
-Everyone turns around whenever I hit the gas.

Oh yea, this also reminds of the time a guy I know took the four mufflers off of his 2006 M5 and ran straight pipe from the cats.
I shit you not, first time I ever heard it I was about a 1/4 mile away on the other side of a building and I thought a jumbo jet was coming in for landing right above me. I am not joking. I literally thought that.

If you love it
Look into the quick time performance exhaust valve w/ e-cutout and electronic controller
The valve (small butterfly) and the cutout were $200 and the electronic controller was $100
I am going to use a richie v6 racepipe, cutout the middle and replaced it with the 2.5" cutout, I'll have pics later on so you can see
Cutout = open from the jpipe back
SOUNDS LOUDER THEN WHAT YOU GOT
