I would not waste my time or money on drilling/slotting my own disks... These are very inexpensive to purchase and like others said come pre-coated.
If you are just experimenting then look if annealing is done before or after drilling... i tend to think it is done after.
If your tolerances are slightly off, your discs will be miss-balanced which will cause vibration or premature fatigue.
Personally, i would not recommend this.

Just as a point of reference, are there any sites which sell drilled and/or slotted rotors for the 3G TL 6-Speed models?

First of all, drilled from manufacturer is a dumb idea. Doing it yourself is a whole new level of stupid.
I threw on drilled rotors on my old GSR teg when I was in highschool and even then I didn't like them. The holes get rusty like an unpainted caliper and looks gross.
