You have to remember, the J series is SOHC. There is much more opportunity for the DOHC VQ motors in terms of aftermarket support and power gains. With that said, the J responds very well to mods for a SOHC motor. It's hard to compare the 2 cars mod for mod, but I would say they are in the same 'class.'

Reducing drag is also another way to run quicker 1/4 mile times. For example, taking off the rear bumper should see some gains. Yonkersracing went from trapping 106.4 to 111.x with an additional 10whp, ~80lbs additional weight reduction and removing the rear bumper. Just some food for thought.

I don't think the SOHC vs. DOCH makes as big of a difference as you'd think. It's not like a 4.6L Ford SOHC vs DOCH, where the SOHC blows, since the J is still a 4 valve motor.

I think the G35 being RWD was probably the single biggest advantage the VQ got in terms of aftermarket platform. I'd much rather work on a Honda J than any VQ. Just not a big fan of Nissan.

Well if we are going to talk about things we would rather work on. I would rather work on this but I can't leave any car I drive alone. I wish the TL had a better aftermarket and rear wheel drive. I never understood why honda built such an awesome looking sedan and kept it FWD.

Here is some footage of me running at the drag strip last weekend. You can sorta get an idea of how the car runs. My friend running the camera was having problems with the focus.

Sigh, if you believe that, please explain it scientifically. And not, the VQ makes more torque than the J, so DOHC makes more than SOHC because I assure you that is not the case.

I really loathe getting super technical but with a DOHC car you can now take advantage of timing control more which has shown to make significant power on adjustments... Theres a bunch of yapping and uninteresting crap one can talk about with having 2 cams to control 24 valves n 4 cams doing the same but each cam individually messing with intake side n exhaust side.. But again.. I hate seeing a thread go to shitsn i can see it coming lol.. So ill let u have this.. U win ur right whatever your follow up is.

I understand you loathe getting 'super technical' but it's because you can't. You can't even get 'halfway technical' and be in the proper vicinity of correct. Sorry if you think the thread is going downhill, but that happened when you posted random nonsense. Same with what you just said. Don't post stuff you don't understand. If you really think that, you have more learning to do. Since you don't care about the legit reasons, I'll leave you in your own little world where ignorance is bliss. Take your blue pill and wake up happy.

Yes, he did, and ive ridden in the car and have seen the slips. They were custom Web regrinds based off of Ethanol's engine mods submitted via an order form to Web Cam. Bisi was not involved, as this was well before they had any product offerings utilizing Web Cam's services.

I see someone has a post on V6P as to what they charge. No responses yet. I've been a member there for like two or three years and every time I try to post, I get some weird message that I'm not allowed to post in that thread. Their servers think I'm someone else. I've pm'ed administration but never get any response.

Im also interested in camshafts. I started looking into the RL vs TL-S cam debate but really didnt learn much from the forums. I read that people really dont know the duration of the cams. Maybe one of you guys know more about this.

Ive been looking at a lot of different cam treads also and came out with nothing.. I dont know the duration either but i believe like all threads lists.. Theyre both hollow (fwiw) and the RL is veery slightly more aggressive... To me for the $ i think im just gonna get stock 3.2 cams n regrind.. Save myself at least 3-400$.. Ive yet to see where being hollow or those specs had any performance gains

Tony - car looks great! Curious, you said you have magnaflows in place of the stock mufflers. Is there any drone? which magnaflows did you use?

Also, I saw you posted previously that your car went 14.9 @ 95 on a 2400 DA. Looks like the DA was 240 the other night on the 99mph run. Looks like that DA definitely makes a difference! Nah...must just be coincidence lol.

I had the exhaust shop put on the Magnaflow mufflers and tips I do not know the part number. I went back to the track Friday night and ran a 14.16 @ 99.5. I also won the opportunity to install a new clutch Friday night. So that's the next project.

How much did the new transmission cost? And what exactly was this new transmission (brand new, used rebuilt, used)? Was yours not worth fixing?

I launch around 2500 and slip the clutch out of the hole till it hooks. Any higher and it spins, any lower and it bogs. Then powershift the rest of the gears. My 60-ft time is around 2.2 to 2.3 on a decent run. I wanted to try to get in the 13s before I changed anything on the car. Looks like 14.11 is the quickest its going to run in its current form. After a clutch I want to put on a different J pipe.

Lol.. Let me save you the disappoint hahaa all the small victories of getting to a certain point is shortlived when you consistently break those times due to more mods lol... Get that J-pipe n make me more jelly lmao

Thats the plan. I got to put a clutch in the car so I wont be back at the track this year. I will put the J pipe on sometime this winter and get the rest of my exhaust modified. Im going to put 2.5 inch pipe from the j pipe back through a resonator. No mid muffler. Maybe the car will make a little noise then. Its too quiet now. I went from driving a 306 with a cam, 10 to 1 compression and 3 inch flowmaster exhaust to the TL. My first week in the car I would stall the engine because I couldn't hear it rev.

Even with PCDs, no MM, and a jpipe, the TL is remarkably quiet at idle.

I have full bolt ons minus the factory catback and my exhaust note sounds almost stock. Just to give you an idea on how restrictive the stock exhaust is lol. Those mufflers probably aren't doing anything considering you are still on stock piping. Are you eventually going to do full exhaust mods or are you trying to keep it mellow?
