Do I need the chip?

I noticed today, while navigating through Memphis traffic, that my car was just real sluggish in the acceleration. Unless I was in Shift mode (or whatever you call it ) the car almost seemed to ....lag when i put the pedal to the floor. It took literally 2 full seconds at 40 mph for the car to wind up and deliver some power!!! That kinda pisses me off. I want the car to respond when I hit the gas. Not hesitate, then go. So what do I do. I've read the ECU thread and it makes an amazing difference. but the ECU reprograms itself after 25 miles or so. i want my car to respond like it should. Does the chp help? I need input from you guys!!

Oh and while I'm on a tangent.... do any you guys have a problem with your driver seat being just a tad bit loose? Example: When I am on the road coming to a stop say to a red light, when my car comes to a complete stop, my seat leans foreward just a tad. then when I push the gas (easy or hard) it rocks back just a bit. Anybody know of this? Fixes?

Thanks guys!!

there is a TSB on the 'loose' seat issue. i'll defer to others in answering your other questions.

I thought the loose seat issue was only the 04-06 UA6 TL's??

chip? there is no such thing as a chip for the TL

here's what you can do to increase power

Cold Air Intake - $200~..... Id say, a 3% increase in overall power
J-Pipe - $350~ ..... 5-7% increase in power
Exhaust - $1000~...... 5-7% increase in power
Pre-cat deletes $250~....... 7-10% increase in power
Supercharger...$4000~...... 20%-30% increase in power
(Draft stage) Turbo Kit... $6000~ ...... 50% +++ increase in power, but no real tested reliability.

UR Pulley, frees up some of the friction lag on acceleration.. doesnt necessarily "add" power... but definitely worth the $200~

Well first off what kind of gas do you use, regular 81 or supreme 93
how many miles do you have on your car? have you ever use any gas treatment, I use slick50 gas treatment and it works wonder for the first 100 miles or am getting uses to the feeling. I also notices the same problem with my car about the seat but never looked in to it.

*I've never even heard of 81 octane, but I've NEVER put anything in this car less than 93 and only Shell or Chevron
*40342 miles
*never used gas treatment on this car. used it on another car and it damn near ruined everything....

if it's a tsb (shifting chair), does that mean acura will warranty the fix, even if the cars out of warranty?

no it does not mean they will warranty it. however, you can ask them to repair it under goodwill and see what they say. i just had the o-ring on the ps pump replaced under goodwill (cheap fix) while i was getting some other stuff done at the dealer last week.

another option i would recommend is the IM spacer from the honda SUV's. It improves low end torque which means you will feel it off the line which is where my car always lagged. My car feels more effortless on take offs now since i installed it. Best $35 dollar mod out there if you ask me, especially for the 5at TL's.

^$35?! Where did you buy from? Yes, the IM spacer is an excellent mod, although new, it costs around $80.

Some people do it every few thousand miles. It just cleans out the engine by putting into the oil just before a change, in the gas for the injectors and slowly into the intake for the TB, Intake, runners, etc.

The frequency really depends on how often you think carbon buildup and contaminates are getting into the engine and clogging things up.

Just got back from Acura of Memphis. The seat problem IS covered under the factory warranty AND any extended warranty, A new seat frame was ordered no questions asked!! I also asked if my dash ever cracked if that too would be covered under warranty and I got a big fat NO!! lol Appearantly its considered to be like a window gasket, "wear % Tear".. Sooo I guess I'll have to keep extra good care of my dash.

There is no need to ever seafoam a 40,000 mile car whether it's in the gas, oil, or intake. That's crazy.

OP, are you complaining about the amount of time it takes the transmission to downshift? For whatever reason these cars won't do a double downshift, they downshift one gear at a time even if it takes a few seconds to hit the right gear. I have no idea why Honda would do that when transmissions have dropped 2-3 gears at once since the 80s.

I was just passing on info I read. I've only got 20K on my TL and felt the same as you. I have done it twice on my Pilot @ 65K and 75K. Didn't see any difference in the gas mileage or performance. But I also keep up on the maintenance.
