Difference between XLR8 resonated and non-resonated exhaust.

I have been kinda sorta looking at cat back exhaust systems for my 07 Type S mainly just for sound. I have eliminated the ATLP systems because I can't stand the look of the tips. The RV6 TD is nice, but just wayy too much money for me to put into an aftermarket exhaust system. From listening to videos and seeing pictures of the tips, I'm really digging the XLR8 system and price seems decent.
So my question is, is the only difference between the resonated and non-resonated just that...one has a resonator and one doesn't? It's hard to tell any differences between them in YouTube videos so I want to ask you guys. Is it just a volume difference, or do they actually sound different? I do not want loud, so I think resonated would be best for me, but can anyone give me an example of how loud either of these systems are? I will not be changing Jpipe or removing cars or anything.
I actually really like the sound of stage 2 OEM exhaust, but with my latest TL purchase I'm really weird about it and don't want to permanently hack any part of it. I want to be able to put it back to 100% stock if I so please (only easy bolt ons if that). Also, if anyone has a Type S XLR8 system for sale I would possibly be interested in it.

Thanks for any help guys.

When I first got my MRP TL-S 6MT, my first performance mod was the XLR8 resonated catback. I loved the way it sounded, got lots of compliments on it. It wasnt raspy at all, sounded very crisp and exotic. Similar to the stock Nissan/infiniti sounding cars but a tad louder.

I highly recommend that system.

I have both XLR8 system (well the piping which I can swap out if I want to go non or resonated). I started with non and it was freaking loud. Love the cold starts; sounded like a v8 with cams. I switch to resonated to reduce the loudness, drone, and rasp. Yes, the resonated sounds exotic, but I am running HFPC and jpipe as well; so the tone change a bit.

Get the resonated for sure. It's still decently loud because the resonator is so small but I can't imagine the non resonated. My xlr8 exhaust is my favorite mod to date, it makes a type s sound like how a type s should sound!

Yeah I figured if I do the XLR8 system it would for sure be the resonated one. So you guys say with OEM jpipe and cats, that the even the resonated exhaust is somewhat loud? I dont want too loud, but just something more than stock. Would be pretty sweet if someone was local to me with that setup so I could hear before I buy.

to be honest, don't even think about it...it's an amazing sound and you will love it

It was by no means "loud" compared to what mine is now. It was actually perfect for the normal user just looking for a nice aggressive tone with minimal rasp. When I first got the car, it made driving so much more fun.

if you buy the xlr8 exhaust (resonated) can you install it first non resonated to see if you would like it loud and if you happen to dislike the volume can you put in the resonator with no problem?

The piping on the xlr8 is a half inch bigger if I'm not mistaken

My exhaust craze lasted a few days a while back and now I'm over it. The exhaust sounds from V6 just aren't my thing and making it any louder is probably not what I want to do. I'm still convinced the best sounding exhaust mod is the stage mods lol. Stage 1 and 2 sound pretty damn good, but I won't be doing those either as I can't bring it to myself to chop up my perfectly good exhaust system lol.
