really no difference. just use the diameter that your oem exhaustg is. you dont gain power from removing the resonator

2.25" is stock diameter piping, whereas 2.5" is aftermarket. If you are stock, you want to use 2.25".

how do they weld in that magnaflow resonator that people get if the inlet and outlet is 2.5" on it since the stock piping is 2.25?

That's why it's called welding. The exhaust shop can do it.

Fits over the stock. Not like OJ's Glove

i know they weld it lol.. my reason for asking is, because i got my mid mufrler delete done the other day,,i told theguy to weld in a 2.5 inch straight pipe,, he said no because the stock pipe was 2.25.. i gave him a funny look, because i know guys on here put that bigger resonator on.

thats because their welder just accumulates the weld material to make up for the extra space. its all hype. no point in doing the bigger one

Both the dynomax and magnaflow part numbers that are referenced in some of the topics are 2.5" But both are also available in 2.25" So wouldn't it make sense to use the same 2.25" because that is the size of the existing pipe or would it be too tight to fit over the existing pipe? I was thinking about ordering the 2.25 but don't want a problem when I take it to muffler shop to get it put on.

if the 2.25 is the same size as the oem pipe all they do is widen it up using a machine

Several ways to close the gap and all are very easy. If the gap is very big and you don't use a slip pipe you have an ugly weld. It is very hard to get something clean looking when there is a lot of space. I used to just take a little piece of 2.25" and then expand one end to slip right into the 2.5". Looks much nicer that way

most muffler shops have a machine that can "bore out" the inlet and outlet of the exhaust. I believe that same machine can also do the opposite of boring out the inlets/outlets. I got the 2.5 and had them manipulate the ends so that it would fit the 2.25" ...wish i had gotten the 2.25" though, makes sense that it would bottleneck less IMO
