Post D-097: Brembo Caliper Color Combos (Not for 56k)

Yes that's right. I'm starting a new thread for this like a noob. Except I'll do it a little differently. I grabbed a bunch of color combination examples so people can see them on the calipers already.

Anyways, I am revamping my entire brake system next week and since my brembo's clear coat is flaking like crazy I figured now is the time to redo them.

This isn't a DIY on painting the calipers. This is just a quick resource for color combinations.

And I have to say, for my NBP, I am leaning towards a really bright color. I like the orange and the teals... The rotora bbk color is a great color imho.

White would be awesome on NBP, but I would probably be going for RED as white would become BLACK to quick with those dusty brembos...

Well I think red/yellow are overplayed. Obviously black is because it's stock. Really black looks best I guess but if you want something different...

I may just end up going black with a crazy bright decal.

That Slate/Silver and Black combo would look seriously classy on your NBP.

^Yea but I think it would clash with the aspec colors or oem wheels for that matter.... That is personally my favorite but I just don't think it'd look right.

Now with black wheels or type-s waffles.... mmmm Lol

what is your color theme on the inside/outside ?

for instance mine is black and blue and hence I would remove red/green/teal out of the picture....this will help you set a nice flow to the car....

I have the gray interior on NBP. My aspecs are custom powdered but basically are the gunmetal color just a tad brighter. Grille is body matched. So really I don't have a theme, it's just black. Only thing shiny are my exhaust tips and emblems.

What finish do you have on your A-Specs? Sparkle Silver or Ebony Chrome/Platinum?

I think the blue flake would look good next to a sparkling NBP... It kind of flows with the nbp blues yet is bright and sticks out.

Check out the MC205 - Orange Anodized

http://duplicolor.com/products/metalCast/

I was thinking about putting down white, then overlaying with the smoke anodized.

Although it's not caliper paint or engine enamel it is rated to 500*. I don't know.

I like those, I may do something like that with the white stickers. Anybody know a good place to get the stickers? Im assuming ebay is probably the best bet. Does this pait adhere well or do you have to primer first?

I don't think the caliper paint really requires primer as long as the surface has been prepped properly. Maybe the adhesion promoter would be good. But the caliper kits don't come with primer so... I mean I would prefer the use a primer but I'm not sure what issues you would have with the heat. Anyone care to comment on this?

As for the decals, if you want Acura, eBay is probably the place. I am going to just order hi temp brembo decals from...

http://www.xenonmods.com/newallcaliperdecals.htm

Also, I think I've picked out my color. I am just going to go with the blue duplicolor metalcast. I may even add a base layer of the metalspecks. The metalcast has a sexy finish, it's bright enough to make it eye catching, and in a way will match the blue tones in the NBP.

I think it'll look hot!

Hmm not sure if I like the blue. I want it to be brighter and lighter then that. Is that just blue or is that specifically the metalcast?

I think the orange looks great. Bright as shit. But I feel like I'd be a candy corn rolling down the highway. Lol

Oh and hood gaps like that are :gheyfight:

That car has so much potential but is thwarted by the hood gap, the poor choice of wheels, and awkward eyelids.

dude. are you serious? that "ricer hood spacer" turns a stock hood into a vented cowl. for like $8. don't be a hater.

That's pretty hot. Did you go with the stock size decal for brembo? I think it's 3.5"x.81".

Also, what primer did you use? Regular, self etching, hi temp??

And omg! Ball seat washers! Why didn't I think of that! Is there any reason NOT to use those? I'd love to get some nicer looking lugs...

At speed, under hood temperature is essentially the same as ambient air temp.

Unless the TL is a performance car, (it's not) then this is unnecessary.

FWIW, it looks like he did the washer trick AND left his hood unlatched. That, or he has purposefully raised the hood latch wildly out of adjustment, as a bonus to the washer mod. IMO, looks dumb, even on a show car.

What was this thread about? Oh yeah, calipers. Hmm.... cool colors and stuff

meh, 4* is 4* less. i think blue cars look shitty, even on show cars, but i don't come around arguing that blue cars are ricers.

I bought some off ebay because the route I wanted to go was to stencil them on but the place I bought them offline was from china which took 3 weeks wtf. So I opted for the decal stickers (hi-temp apparently) and I believe it's 4" long.

I cleaned and sanded the hell out of the caliper. I carefully used aircraft stripper, then a wire wheel and then sanded. Hi temp primer follwed by the hi temp paint, etc.

I think the orange looks great. Bright as shit. But I feel like I'd be a candy corn rolling down the highway. Lol

Oh and hood gaps like that are :gheyfight:
LOL the hood was popped LOL....At the hinges there is a gap of 5mm but it grows since the hood was popped....I had to do that since I have pnp MDX spacer in there....lots of low end TQ

Hood gap is from the spacer....i dont mind a 5mm gap for ~5-7WTQ all in the low end

As for rims, thats what I could go for at the time and recently got them powder coated to the color of my liking....the only time i dislike them is when i gotta clean them, those many spokes can be a PITA....I wish i was a wheel whore

The eyelids (more like paint on the inside) is something which differentiates my car from tons of TL on Azine...its a love it or hate it thing and I love it....

Honestly pix dont do justice to the eyelids or the rims....

I hate those ricer civics as much as you do....and none of my mods are in those category....this 5mm gap is more functional than form....I also have the UCM (Ultimate Cooling Mod) and the 5mm gap honestly does a lot more....I use the Cabin Air Filter and this 5mm incline coz of the spacer lets me use the cabin filter since any water coming from the hood directly gets on the windshield rather than going in the "grand canyon" (as referred by Inaccurate)....

Plus my manifold/TB temp is (I guarantee you coz of the mods I have) way way way lower than yours so i bet my car will be faster off the line than yours

dude. are you serious? that "ricer hood spacer" turns a stock hood into a vented cowl. for like $8. don't be a hater.
Patience and myself dont go in 1 statement LOL....I wish there was something like that to keep the engine bay cooler....I have spend a good fortune on just doing that....I wish I would say "i spend $8 and my engine bay is cooler"....

I mean not to hate. It's just a little 'too much' for a nicer car like a TL. That's my
Dude again...this is a forum where people voice their opinion....maybe your style is something else....some people like being dropped to the point where it looks the wheels are going to fall off...am not a sucker for that style, but some like it....

Its your car....you gotta feel happy about it, not someone else sitting miles away seeing your car's pic on a forum and hating it....till you like it, thats what matters

Hmm.... cool colors and stuff
kinda right here....got 5mm worth of washer for 2 reasons ported and polished spacer + UCM....and dude honestly under hood temperature is the only reason TL is not a performance luxury car....my girls 03 Lexus has more low end on a hot day than the TL....

you might wanna search for threads saying "heat soaked" or "car feels sluggish" and you will see why

WOW now back to the topic ? wait what was the topic

Sorry OP for the

if you pull all the "luxury" dress up shrouds, trim the liner/etc on the hood for good clearance then yeah it's like i described.

and how much did you spend for hood spacers? i meant only those. they are cheap plastic.

TL has 2 big anti power thngies keeping it from being more popular performance-wise. 1, SOHC. 2, SOHC. makes it shitty low, and shitty up top.
