I talked to the shop and they said stainless steel is the way to go.
So should we keep the cat or delete it? or do you guys want the test pipe?

good luck with this. I tried to do a custom setup through Joe at Prototype racing when I had my TL. Then everyone jumped ship just before we met the goal. However I was trying to eliminate all 3.

It would have looked like this and been a lot cheaper than the E-shift procats probably with better gains to boot. Obviously we would have needed CEL eliminators.

I am in. Count me in definately. Whatever model is best with a supercharger application and would produce the most gains. Not really worried about legal/smog-just performance. Been trying to bag e-shift to make one of these for me for several months to no avail.

my shop can definitely build a pipe like this. Problem is most people would want to retain the cat.
I have already showed them pictures and told them what we want. They will give me a quote tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of what this shop is capable of doing. They make a lot of custom turbo kit. They could make one for the TL if there are enough interest. However the last time I asked they said I better have a 10k buget....LOL..but that also includes tuning and engine managment.

Ya know what would really be awesome... if he could put a flange where it would bolt up to the pre-cat on each side. That way if we want, we can either retain the pre-cats, or totally replace them w/ the pipes w/ the manifold flange. What do you guys think?
Edit: Actually there is already a flange for bank 1. We would just need one for bank 2. As long as they are in the correct place to keep the pre-cat if we choose.

A straight pipe to repace the two precats can easily be made. All it is is a pipe with two flanges. If there are enough interest I could ask the shop to make those as well. However be warned that without the precats you would need o2 simulators or else you will have a CEL.
Also without the two precats there might not be enough back pressure and the low end torque might suffer, but the high end gain should be significant.

I dont think they realize how much low end torque they would lose without precats on there unless they are supercharged, which is a different story altogether. I am supercharged and have considered it...but for everyday driving...not sure it would be worth the hassle.

The most recent one added is nice, if we can get it w/o the pre-cat eliminating pipes. The 2nd one is beautiful, but leaves no option for the 3rd cat. So I vote for either the very last one, like I said, or the 3rd one.

I am in the steel business, and the above statement is true... it depends on what coating weigth the use... they are going to buy hot dipped galvanized, but it depends on the coating weigth that they buy..... That will depend on how high the price is on G40 which has the lowest amount of zinc coating, g60 is all prime which is what they really need to use and G90 is the best with the most zinc, most places use elcometers to determine the amount of zinc on the steel... The kicker is that domestic steel prices are suppose to rise over the next few months, so this needs to be done quickly or the price could inflate fast. I am not a big fan of stainless, but it can be done cheaper as long as the coating does not crack when it is formed,
Also, G60 galvanized steel will not peel for a long ass time if ever... It is the industry standard for load bearing applications in high rise buildings...

I still think the 2nd picture yields the best gains and should be modified for the 3rd cat for those who think they won't "pass inspection" without it... like for real what shop looks underneath the car if the emissions are on par

Great project, but I notice that most people participating here aren't supercharged. How do you people expect to see gains from a large diameter j-pipe? I believe you will lose the already little precious torque you have! On the other hand, Lookinco's car is blown and heavily modified, he'll see mad increase in tq and hp. I suggest getting supercharged first lol and then work around the supercharger as the base for other modifications.

E-Shift tried putting a J-Pipe on another TL that was N/A and they lost HP and TQ.

We really won't find out if it would benefit on NA TL until we dyno it. However for those of us who are supercharged, this will give us some nice gain for sure.
