Comptech Sway Bars

I noticed most people are just getting the rear sway bars and when I was looking at a group buy for Comptech sway bars, I noticed that they sold both front and rear.

I'm new to this so I was wondering (1) are the sway bars worth it and what can I expect performance-wise and (2) should you get both front and rear...why or why not.

Thanks for the help!

As far as I know comptech doesn't make a front sway bar for the 3G. If you have an AT like myself the sway bar is worth every penny. Do a search and you will find many nice write ups on how to install the sway bar yourself. I did mine in 45mins, I would have done in about 25-30 mins but my wife was scared because I was under the car and she kept checking on me. We had a friend die because he didn't use jack stands, and the car fell on him, so ever since she has been a freak about me working on the car.

Well, a 6MT has a OEM sway bar that is 20mm the comptech one is 22mm, the auto is 17mm. I have seen many on here that have a 6mt and love the CTSB, I have an AT and I can tell you I love it.

It's not just the increase in thickness... it's much more rigid...solid.. meh, doesn't get any gheyer than this.

Typically, on a front drive car, you're not going to want a bigger front sway bar. Doing so increases understeer.

I have an AT with stock suspension and the Comptech RSB. I can feel the improved handling with the RSB. The only minor drawback is the occasional "thud". I've removed the bar 2 times, greased the bushings, retightened the bolts and still get that "thud". I guess that's the sound of improved handling.

How long have you had the RSB for, Jeffa?

Usually, if you use Lithium grease, you shouldn't have to re-grease it for at least a year.

You're not using crisco, are ya?

Yep. For more neutral handling on FWD you should only get a bigger RSB (usually).

I've had the RSB for about 3 weeks now. I slurged and bought the Mobil 1 synthetic grease ($8/can). The "thud" is less noticable with the grease but still there. I've read over on a TSX thread someone using plumber's thread tape.

What about with those (like me) with lowered springs - such as the Tein's plus the rear Comptech? How does it perform?

I've been thinking about getting a Comptech RSB but this is the first I've heard anything about greasing them up. What exactly do you grease? The linkages? And is that part of the typical install or just something some people are doing as an extra precaution? Is it really necessary to add grease at all?

OEM isn't greased...CT instructions don't call for grease...therefore, I didn't grease mine.

The bushings. There are polyurethane bushings that hold the bar to the chassis. Metal on polyurethane without lubrication means a lot of squeaking noises. Using white lithium grease, or equivalent, will prevent squeaking and won't require regreasing for a long time.

^ Are the bushings polyurethane? I thought the CT used the stock bushings, and that the stock bushings were rubber? No?

How could they possibly use the stock bushings when the bar itself is thicker than the OEM one?

stock = rubber
CT = polyurethane

You are right on one part of that. CT does provide bushings for the new sway bar, to fit the thicker diameter (I was brain dead asking that).

However, as far as I know they are NOT polyurethane. They are rubber. Anyone else wnat to chime in?

You could be right. I know for sure the bushings that came with the F/R bars for my TL-S were polyurethane, but for the 3G, they might be rubber, now that I think about it.

Have you noticed any squeaking sounds? I just received mine and will have it put on within the next couple of weeks. Not sure if I should mention the greasing thing to him.

You should grease them with marine grease. I did mine after the rubber bushings started to squeek to my surprise. It's fine now.

right after i installed the sway bar i had a lot of squeaking from the rear when i would go over speed bumps...got to the point where it was really annoying. i pulled the swaybar off and greased the hell out of everything...no more noise now.

I had them grease them just in case. I've had them on for a week now and no squeaks...and they do make a difference! I'm glad I did the upgrade. Now I just need to get the AEM Intake installed.

Man, Acura Carland must be on crack. They gave me a quote of $340 plus tax installed! And only $230 if I supply the part! Are they insane. Hell I'll look elsewhere in Atlanta for a less expensive install of this part.

DIY...instructions are in the 3G Garage...hell, here's the link...scroll down to section D, Tires/Wheels/Suspension/Etc...look for DIY Comptech Swaybar. I swapped mine out when I installed my ASPEC suspension...it's not hard at all.

Oh, I plan on it. I was just curious how outrageous they would be with this install. Leave it to a dealership to continue to try and screw folks unnecessarily.

They're trying to rip you off big time!

Find an independent (perhaps gas station style) repair shop. They can do it just as easily. The independent shop I've been doing business with for years did it in 7½ minutes once the car was up on the lift, $40. Just make sure they torque the bolts correctly.
