Comptech RSB questions

before i buy the rsb, i need to know a few things. Yes, i have searched, but not found a straight answer. Is it possible to change the swaybar without removing the tires and jacking it up? I am really skinny and can fit under without a problem. My idea was just to take of the bar by unscrewing the the screws on each end, taking just the mufflers out and unscrewing the brushings too. Is that possible? PS i am a little mechanicaly incline with modding my car

Sure it is... But it will suck alot more then jacking it up and taking the tires off...

If you have ramps you might be able to get away with it, but still thats alot of effort.

As for being skinny... Got you are like what.... 5 inches thick?

Actually, you dont need to take the mufflers off... And it would be alot easier to remove and install the sway bar by pulling it out of one side.

yea, i mean it is possible to install it without jacking the car up and taking anything off but you really don't want to. i just checked the bolts on mine after installing it a week ago so i just slid under there earlier tonight. i'm 5'9 150 and while i'm underneath, my face can barely fit sideways. also, all i was doing was checking to make sure the bolts were still tight. i could barely fit my hands underneath there to get any leverage so i just kinda half assedly made sure they weren't falling off or anything. of course a hot chick in the building who parks next to me rolls up while i'm sitting there with my legs sticking out beneath the car

i used ramps to install mine and didn't take a wheel off, obviously lol. i would at least recommend jacking up one side.

I strongly advise you to jack up the car and allow both wheels to 'hang' with stands under the jacking points.
This way, you don't need to remove anything but the RSB itself and it gives you the extra room to manouvre the bar in and out of place.
I'm not so sure about jacking the car on one side as this will 'load' the RSB and may make the drop links more difficult to install.
With this method, it took me more time to jack the car and put axle stands than it did to do the install!

Good luck

hey guys, i looked at the swaybar, and was at the end where the bar meets the wheel, there is some type of rubber covering with four metal dots on it. Should i pry it off or what. If you guys want, i can post a pic tomorow. also it looks like that i can slide the bar out whit the mufflers still on the car.

No, you dont need to take off the dimpled covering. You can normally just remove the nuts from the end of the bar, but if the link end turns with the nut, you will need to hold the link-end with an allen key while loosening the nut.

What Sodde said. It uses an allen key and open end or box end wrench...

The nut on the opposite side of the dimpled thing can clearly be seen in the pictures....that is the nut you will take off.

I really am beginning to think that you shouldn't attempt this mod.
If you are struggling to see how easy this is (jacking up the vehicle, putting axle stands in the correct place, removing 4 bolts and 2 nuts) then I can only suggest you let someone more qualified do this. It is not difficult to someone with some mechanical knowledge but if you're not there then leave it to somebody who is and save yourself the heartache and possible damage/injury to yourself of the vehicle.

The allen hole is on the end that you cant see in the picture.

Dimple side doesn't move.

Get yourself a service manual. Its 70ish (maybe 90) bux... Its well worth it.

Also, jack the car up, take the tire off, and get a good look at it.

the only reason i am asking all of these noob questions is because i want to be sure that i can do it. This will probably the first car mod that i'm gonna do that involves taking the car apart (sort of) and i don't want to screw up.

I did mine with car ramps as well and it was very easy (except for snaking the old and new bars through the exhaust/suspension without taking any wheels or exhaust off) but I have done quite a bit of work on cars.

I did mine with car ramps and it was very easy. Took about 30 minutes the first time I did it... I did it again when I upgraded my bushings to the aftermarket ones... and I could do it again in about 10 minutes.

I did not take off the wheels, or the exhaust, no need to remove either. One suggestion...leave the plastic cover on your NEW RSB until you get it into place so you don't scratch it while wiggling it into position.

it's like 16 for the 4 bolts underneath the car and like 29-30 for the 2 end link bolts on both sides.
