Cold-Air vs Short Ram

Cold-Air vs Short Ram
Here is what I could find regarding the difference:
In all honesty, the differences between the CAI and SRI are minimal and limited only to idle intake temperatures, length, and visual appeal.
At cruising speed, the temperatures in the engine bay of any given vehicle are roughly the same (+ - a few degrees) as the ambient air outside the engine bay.
AEM, for instance, bases their HP and TQ numbers off of dyno runs. The car is stationary, but the hood is up and there is a fan blowing onto the radiator in an attempt to simulate driving conditions. To get a more accurate representation of horsepower and torque gains would be very difficult...so I won't even try to explain what my brain has concieved.
The SRI is designed to give a little more HP and TQ at lower RPMs than the CAI, while also giving slightly better throttle response.
The CAI is better for high(er) end power than the SRI, but with the slightly, almost unnoticable, slower throttle response.
I know most of you guys have the CAI, but I like the fact of quicker throttle response and low RPMs. Obv. not having to worry about hydrolock is a plus.
Can a short ram do damage at all being that at times it sucks in slightly warmer air? I dont think it would be a problem.

o_O lol ^^^ does that car run with the red covering around the filter?
hydrolock is epic fail for any car submerged in water, no matter cai or stock.
rained back in new orleans a few years back, of course flooded the streets pretty bad, saw 4-5 cars along the side of the roads, emergency flashers on, engines hydrolocked. and i'm 99.99% sure they weren't running cold air intakes lol. moral: cai or not, if you go driving around in toilet bowls (no offense to n.o.) of course you have a chance of getting hydrolock. if your up to your neck in water i dont think its really gonna make a difference what kind of intake you have xP
other than that i dont think you need to worry bout a little puddle here and there lol

The hydrolock is really the least of my worries. I understand it takes a large amount of water.
The reason I ask is not because the short ram is cheaper but because of the sound and increase in low end tq.
Honestly Id rather have a small gain in low end tq, but my concern is will the warmer air being sent to the engine cause long term damage. I personally do not think so because its probably just as warm as the acura airbox but
I could be wrong.

Here's a link to Blue Rocket's custom SRI. It is really well done.
