Cold Air Intake Questions

Is there any chance a cold air intake will damage my 05 TL's engine? Also what brand(s) should I choose for an intake?

WOW! I love how the same questions are constantly posted and ed. Anyway, unless you drive into lake Michigan, or a deep puddle you will be fine. Drive like you care about your car, than no worries. AEM, Fujita and Injen are the most popular...

the CAI will only damage your engine in the event it sucks up water and hydrolocks the motor. Many say that the water needs to be up to the top of the bottom grille to cause a hydrolock. Others say that a puddle 3 in. deep can do it, whats fact and fiction, i don't know since I don't have one.

Your best bet is the AEM one, you can buy them for a good price from excelerate, he is a vendor on AZ

Everyone is going to say AEM, its the more popular brand on this forum. I got the INjen with a hyrdroshield(its fits on top of the air filter to repel water). The injen is easier to install than the AEM and has the option of a hydroshield. The AEM is a very good intake and has a bypass valve which wont let water in. Its just im not too sure if im convinced it works. Anyway whatever you choose im sure youll be happy with it. Just dont drive into a pool or a big ditch!!!

I used to have a jacked up tacoma with a aem intake... the water getting sucked in is only going to happen if you drive your car in the Atlantic Ocean... Drove through tons of mud and puddles with no problems. Im sure you'll be fine with a Acura Tl (Sports Sedan) just my 2 cents

well i looked up hydrolock and it just means to suck up water in to the engine, which i did. but the dealership blew it out, cleaned everything up, and flushed the oil out a few times and as of now it all seems to be ok. i plan on getting a compression test in the near future as well as keep an eye on the MPG and perceived performance. but as of now it appears ok. and it was not the depth that was the main cause, it was the fact that i hit it at like 35-40mph without seeing it.

i think and hope so. i have driven about 200miles since i got it back and it seems ok. i havent pushed it much so we will see. it seems to have a little hesitation on startup, but it may just be in my head. i have a thread going in the "problems/fixes" sections that i plan on keeping up to date as i find anything new out. i just hope no issues pop up in the near future.
