Cold Air Intake

I have an 08 TL-S. Just got the XLR8 v2 j-pipe but i'm also looking for an intake, preferably a cold air intake but if a short ram will add more horsepower I am open to that. Which intakes are the best for horsepower gain? I know a lot won't be gained but looking for the max. Is AEM the best to go with? Thanks

Not to be mean. But youve gotta search this man. Many conflicting threads on short ram vs cai. But, all brands are the same. A tube and a filter.

the max gainer will be the 4 inch intake along with the 3.7 TL's SHAWD intake manifold and throttle body.

anything less than this is a waste of time and money.

Most people go with the AEM V2 intake because it has the largest tubing.

What is their diameter? The inner pipe, not outer pipe?

And honestly...is there any truth to all that sound frequency mambo jambo or is it just fancy BS?

you'll find that the tubing is 2.5-3inches.....

no where near the 4 inch diy tube that can net you WAAAY better results with the 3.7 SHAWD manifold and throttle body.

why waste time and money on a 2.5inch pipe?

I hear ya and I love the SHAWD setup, but I don't want to deal with idle and throttle hang issues. I just want to P&P the manifolds pop in an intake and be done with it

Debating between that plastic DIY intake and AEM.

^I have ported and polished runners and 3.2l intake manifold with bored throttle body.

my diy stock intake mod is no match for my intake manifold setup.
It would be ideal for me to go to a 4 inch intake.

save your $200 something dollars plus tax on the AEM intake....
and just do the DIY stock intake mod for now

It's a 4" intake that flares down to a smaller size (I believe 3") at the bend before the throttle body.

You mean removing the velocity stack and adding that end piece to the stock tubing? I thought about it and if I had more time id do it but you still end up with the same stock air filter so same filter area, just a little more noise/growl. I'd rather do it once with a nice single tube and larger area cone filter.

Sucks that P2R doesn't sell the P&P lower manifold anymore, I'll have to find someone to do the P&P.

our stock filter outflows the stock throttle body at WOT. so, no worry about the same surface area...

and I mean removing the velocity stack near the battery and relocating it to where the resonator should be(which means resonator is removed)

I removed the resonator on my Accord (which appears to be more restrictive than the TL resonator) and ran the tube from the filter box into the fender. Free, has to be less restriction than stock.

FWIW, the same K&N intake for the TL and Accord makes (according to K&N) 7 hp more in the TL and 10 hp more in the Accord so stock the TL does have a better factory intake system.

That's what I meant too, just called the resonator velocity stack by accident, I always get them mixed up. Yeah I know most cars the stock filter flows more than the TB can. I just wanna do this once with a single tube and get rid of the OEM box and snorkel. This spring

These CAIs used to cost ~100 bucks back in the day...200-300 now a days is freakin ridiculous.

I want to keep using dry filters, don't like oil based filters such as K&N. I've used them before and on some cars they can mess up the MAF sensor element.

^too be very honest, you will not gain anything but 1-2hp with the single tube and especially at 200-300 dollars, as you pointed out....its a waste of money.

but hey, if you want to waste your money, go ahead.

I don't want to waste my money but beyond the performance gains I do want things to look nice aesthetically wise. I'll figure out what to do after the holidays.
