CAi/SRI??

So, since I have had my 06 A-Spec I haven't did a single thing to personalize it. Im finally getting the windows tinted but I really want a CAI or SRI. I had a SRI on both of my CL's and.loved the sound but sometimes wonder if the intake is what caused some of the rough idle I had at times. I really don't want to spend a small fortune. I wanted a K&N 69-0021TS but IMO its ridiculously expensive. So I figured I would ask some fellow TL owners. Which brand do you think is best for the money, and do the intakes actually cause any problems. I live in NC we get rain off and on so I don't know which intake would benefit me most. I am just looking for a quality intake that will produce a nice deep throaty sound for decent price that I won't have to worry about hurting my car.

Instead of spending $200 on a CAI that won't give you any HP, spend a little more and buy a Jpipe that'll give you 15HP or so and then remove your intake resonator on your stock intake system. The stock intake is, in essence, a CAI already but because of the intake resonator you don't get the sound of a normal CAI.

^I did this. Just take off the resonator box if you want the induction sound that a CAI will give you. Its pretty darn loud at WOT and you wont hear it much during normal driving. Best of all its free.

This is what the stock intake resonator looks like....

This is the resonator removed....

You reuse the rubber piece and tube next to the battery in the engine bay to create your intake tubing.

Then you attach that to the spot where you cut the resonator away from and you're done.

I have a CAI down to the bumper and lowered on TEIN S techs.

10:30 this morning I was driving thru a heavy downpour and hit some runoff in an intersection.

The car almost instantly started hesitating. Engine light started flashing and massive plumes of exhaust started coming out the back.

I got the car towed to the Acura dealer. I'm hoping there isn't and hydrostatic damage, that's it's just the air filter clogged by water saturation.

Note: My fender lining was ripped off from snow a couple weeks ago. This may have affected the situation.

Youll need to take the bumper off , cut it lose from the pipe that leads to the airbox then unbolt it . Or you can unbolt the entire thing and cut it lose off the car

Let me clarify something here

CAI will add hp with supporting mods; there is an actual dyno from Excelerate which the 3G TL (iirc) only has a XLR8 exhaust and a CAI. The exhaust frees up about 10hp for sure, but his dyno show 20hp gain? Hmm so where did the other 10hp come from? I will look for the thread where Josh posted it and see if I can post it here.

SRI will actually rob you of power. It is sucking in too much hot air under our hoods and most of us know our TLs get heat soak due to the lack of ventilation. Hot air does not create power for our engines or any other to my knowledge. You are better off with the stock intake.

The stock intake mod seems to be only for sound purpose (unless someone has dyno with only the stock intake mod and no other mods), but our stock intake is better than SRI but not better than an actual CAI (less restriction). If you are skeptical about sucking in water than go this route like you previous posted OP.

This guy (EvilVirus) speaks wisdom.

You've heard the cons of both CAI/SRI.

For your purposes, it seems resonator delete > CAI > SRI

I agree your best bet would definitely be removing the resonator, and the best thing is since its free you could always try and put it back or get a CAI and replace it altogether.

Would it be bad to take off the resonator and put a SRI to get alot more air flow?

With an SRI the filter sits up in the engine bay with all the hot air. So it wouldn't really matter if the resonator box was still there or not.

Our stock "CAI" is more sufficent than what you are trying to do. You are going to be sucking in more hot air if you go your route. Just do the resonator delete or get an acutal CAI.
