CAI questions! please help

im considering getting a cold air intake but i have a few questions that need to be answered before i get one.

1) how far is the filter off of the ground?

2) with its height, will it be risky driving it in the rain?

3) if i get a 2 piece that is convertible to a short ram intake, will i be able to convert it real quick? lets say in a parking lot if it starts pouring? or would you have to take the bumper off?

4) do you have to take the bumper off every time you want to clean the filter?

None of the questions you've asked are really valid for Cali?

Except, of course this past week of record-setting rain. But I'm willing to be that's a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.

1. It sits right behind where the stock fogs are, so you can measure that.

2. No.

3. If you get something that's specifically designed to go from CAI to SRI, then . If it's a regular CAI, then . As for removing the bumper, . You can go through the wheel well and remove the filter. Then, you can slide the tube out from up top. But, this depends on where you put the vibration mount.

4. No. You can go through the wheel well lining.

Why don't you just remove the intake silencer instead? when you remove all of that tubing and the silencer box, there's one more tube that connects to the airbox that draws cold air from behind the fender well. And it sits WAY higher than most CAI filters do...you would have to drive into a lake to hydrolock pretty much. You're also basically getting the same effect as a CAI and it's a lot easier to replace / clean the filter.

You would have to drive through 2-3 ft of water in order to suck up water. The filter would have to be submerged in water.

Although I'm not stupid enough to drive through a standing mass of water, I HAVE experienced sluggish performance during downpours. It almost seemed like the filter got wet and was sucking water into the TB.

Is sucking up water what your dealership told you? Thats what they told me but I think they're just trying to scare us off from doing after market mods. Do you guys know if it voids the warranty at all?

Depends on the type of work that needs to be done, and how cool/laid back the service manager is, i wouldnt be surprised if it does VOID warranty, but then again, I wouldnt be surprised if my service man didnt log it and continued on with the work- but then again, i hope to never have to find out

Mine are jerks sometimes, I think they got bad feedback because now they're all sweet and nice. You're making me nervous, maybe I should wait till after the warranty is over to do mods. Wonder if the ATLP thats on order voids it?

Don't get a CAI first. They are not worth it for the money. Get a J-pipe or underdrive pully. You will notice much more hp gains from either of those.

Thats what Mike from ATLP told me too. I'm getting their Jpipe & will order the pulley before doing a CAI. May even attempt the intake resonator delete before a CAI.

do you need to buy anything else to go along with either a j-pipe or a pulley? like a different belt?

If you get same size UD pully as stock you use your stock belt. J-pipe is bolt up.

The aftermarket CAI's are a rip-off. You can easily build one yourself out of intercooler piping and connectors for a fraction of the cost. Then you can set it as high or low as you want.

BTW, I bought one. But if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have.

I think the stock UR pulley is no longer being produced but I am sure you can find one used. Obviously the underdrive model needs a shorter belt.

I am probably going back to stock so I may have one for sale.
