CAI Hydrolock

So im finally going to buy an AEM V2 CAI intake, just wondering anyone ever hydrolock their car due to the CAI? If Please respond, if not also please respond. My car is stock height and running on 19" rims. I am also getting the air filter cover too.

there have been a few. but it is not a common occurance. be smart and don't drive through deep puddles that go above your lower bumper line and you'll be fine. drive slowly through the 6 inch variety but avoid anything higher. if you decide to lower your car...keep all of this in mind.

I haven't had a problem. I'm all stock except for the CAI. I avoid driving through puddles, ponds and lakes though

do you have common sense? if the answer is yes, you should be just fine with a CAI.

you know, that's true. i hate that turn of phrase.

in addition to that, how does one "turn a phrase" anyway? doesn't make any sense.

As long as your not flooring it while sotting in standing water you will be fine.
I had mine on for a few rainy months with no problems.
Or you can buy my intake with the hydroshield.

^you dont have to be flooring it.

if you enter a puddle deeper than your bumper, the engine will suck it up.
why is this a hard concept?

I agree, guys and gals, use some common sense. I have driven in some bad rain storms and first thing I do is avoid flooded areas (though Houston sucks when it comes to our drainage) and I never had a problem.

Drove my dumped TL through water up to the front license plate holes with stock intake. Winning.

Earlier, KN_TL brought up a good point: what happens if you were traveling at night with poor visibility and you accidentally drove through a large puddle?

If you suspect that you sucked in water...shut off the car, remove the plugs and crank the engine, so it can pull the water from the IM and shoot out the plug holes...chances are, nothing's gonna come out. Water's gotta make it all the way up the intake tract, into the IM, through the runners and into the chamber....small quantities...and I mean SMALL, are going to evaporate. You'd have to submerge your intake and suck up water. A little splash on the intake isn't gonna do it. Ive been driving with a filter resting at the bottom of the bumper, car as low as it can go through enough rain already for years.

Now, if you have your car to replace your boat, then a CAI is probably not a good idea.

if you're paranoid just get a bypass valve.

The whole thing's avoidable as long as you dont go driving through puddles that you cant judge the depth of.

Where do you live, OP? If it's anywhere in socal you have pretty much zero need to worry.

Injen cai stock height. 4:30 am raining hard flooded somewhere it has never flooded before. Sucked up water car shut off. Would not start got it back to the house called in to work. Pulled all plugs and cranked engine shot alot of water out. Immediately changed oil, filter and plugs. Also threw some seafoam in the oil it's supposed to help with moisture. Car started right up. Let it idle for hour or so drove it easy for about Hour and hanged oil and filter again. Yes I felt stupid and yes I got lucky

Glad all turned out well. You'll be fine. It's amazing how much extra liquid an internal combustion engine can handle without damage. I decided to change the oil in my bike on Easter Sunday. Fired it up for the first time, let it idle for five minutes to heat the oil, then pulled the drain plug and out came 3.5 qts oil mixed with at least 3 qts gas. I'd forgotten to turn off the petcock and drain the float bowl in the carb last fall and the float valve stuck open, sucking all that gas right into the cylinders. Changed the oil with the cheap stuff and replaced the float valve, idled it for twenty minutes, changed the oil again with the cheap stuff, ran it for a couple hours, then changed it again and put in the Redline oil.

It doesn't rain very often but when it does it pours. Even flash flooding in some areas. Thats the thing about puddles...they can happen any time, any place, without warning.

why pay $200+ for CAI, then $390 for a snokel? I might had done the upgrade. I would pay someone to put a snokel on a Prius though....
