Bypass valve necessary?
Hey guys, I'm debating which intake to get and if a bypass valve is necessary? I was thinking of going with Fujita but it doesn't come w/ a bypass when the aem has one. What do you guys think? Do I need one? Also how many people do have one on thier AEM intake?

Unless your area has lots of flooding and deep puddles, I wouldn't get one. The engine will only hydrolock if the whole filter is submerged into water. I think many TLers on the forum don't have one including myself, so I wouldn't be worried about it.

I think you didnt do a search or you would have hit the oh...500 other threads on this topic. You dont need a bypass. If you do....you dont need a CAI system....plain and simple. Dont mean to flame you...but this topic has been over covered by a longshot on here....your new though and all new people ask it, so its all good! lol

I still refer back to the statement....YOU DONT NEED A BYPASS...AND IF YOU DO...YOU DONT NEED A CAI SYSTEM. I mean...if you live in an area where major flooded streets are going to stop you....then I would say you were asking for trouble with a CAI system or LOTS of inconveniences at a minimum...but if you are like most of us...and just have MAJOR downpours of rains....minor puddling here and there...maybe a major one occasionally....it is an avoidable problem unless you are prone to do crazy stupid things like drive your car into water up to the bumper....which frankly...I wouldnt do either way.

The design of the air bypass is not that great. The one I had installed on my Prelude broke. The frame of the bypass was made of plastic. And yes, it was the AEM bypass. I ended up removing it from the car and just putting a coupler on it. Unless you live in an area that has major rain year round and prone to flooding, it is not needed.
As for a tC needing $7000 for repair work!! How much damage did you do to the car to have $7000 worth of damage. The motor can be completely replaced for way less then that. Please do tell how and what happened.

your other option is the K&N unit, i think it's called the typhoon if you're really paranoid about it. It's a CAI unit but also allows you to convert to short ram during rainy season.....
