Big Brake Kits for 3rd gen TL AT

Hi All

OK. I give up. I ve seen several members in this forum with their upgrades and have yet to figure out where they get those kits from for a reasonable price.

For example: Jatt installed a Rotora front brake kit and I believe a pair of rear Rotora drilled slotted rotors. According to his posts, he paid $1400 for the entire setup.

What website is this from? I want the same setup!

THANKS!!!

just outta curiousity, how much do the stock brembos on 6MT go for?

my brother has the Rotora BBK (slotted/cross drilled rotors & 4 piston calipers) on his 03 TL-S, and I must say, it is amazing. It feels slightly better than my stock brembos, though... which could also be because he used SS brake lines & better brake fluid.

IMO, upgrading the front is good enough on a car like TL... they do most of the braking anyway.

On pretty much ALL cars the fronts do the majority of the braking. Rear BBKs are more for looks, unless you are planning on tracking your car.

Hell even the Acura TL race car just uses the stock Brembos up front, and stocks in the rear (I believe).

also check out stoptech's BBK which is not listed on their site but they have a pdf of their product catalog which is listed there, the price is around 1800. if i was going with a BBK i would go with the stoptech which i have heard lots of good things about from other forums as well.

i know front brakes do most of the braking on most all cars... i was just saying, there's no point in upgrading the rear on a car like TL, which is just a entry lux sport sedan, not a sports car.

if you're serious about brakes, then go with a 6 piston set up in the front, slotted & dimpled (or cross drilled if it's from a reliable company). and maybe swapping out the rear rotors with vented (maybe even slotted, too) discs? i think wilwood makes a BBK w/ 6 piston calipers for TLs.

i dunno about AT brakes, but i'm perfectly content with my stock brembos - which is why asked who much they go for, since it might be better for the original poster to go with those if it's cheaper than other aftermarket BBKs.

True. And your brothers brakes probably feel better because they are 4 pistons vs yours which are 2 piston. The lines would also improve feel as well.

THe factory Brembos can be had for $1,000 from www.acuraautomotiveparts.org And thats for the calipers, all the hardware, pads and rotors. Not worth it when the Rotoras are only $300 more.

And the Wilwood are probably the best for our car, but the Rotora is plenty for 99% of us. The added benifit of the 6 pistons over the 4 is probably not enough to justify the cost. I could be wrong though.

Comptech sells one, which is made by Brembo, for the 5AT TL...

http://www.comptechusa.com/store/product407.html

Brembos are top notch, but hella expensive

Stoptechs are nice as well, and cheaper

Rotoras are good and even cheaper

You have quite a bit of choices out there

not only that, the 6MT brembo's cant be fitted to the 5AT TL without changing out more parts... the cars have different axel shafts (which i dont think you need to replace) and knuckles (which you would have to replace)

aftermarket would be a much easier solution

aftermarket would be the way to go. there is not a single member on here that has successfully installed the 6MT brembos into a 5AT. its not impossible but the cost and work involved would not be worth it.

they are 4 piston. i would not recommend the wilwood as they are probably the worse aftermarket brakes you can get(that is why they are so cheap). alot of people refer to them as wetwood cause they basically provide no real performance of a BBK.

I’ve got the stock front Brembo calipers and would like to replace the rear OEM ones. I know they would do little if any changes in stopping performance and would cost a lot. But I think the OEM in the rear look lame with the Brembos up front! Anyone know if they make an upgrade kit for a 05?

The easiest thing to do would be to paint your calipers black to match the fronts. I've been considering it.

Upgrading the rear brakes will do nothing for stopping ability (or close to nothing) additionally, I don't believe there are any options for upgraded brakes.

Check out the Rotora Big Brake Kit. It's not listed on their website, but if you give them a call a sales rep could give you some info about the kit.

I have the kit on order, which should have arrived by now.

I believe its a 4 piston caliper/ 13" rotor setup.
