Better Acceleration

Hey Guys

I have had my '05 TL AT for over a year now and the performance is good but not consistent...it has its moments.

There are times when the car will hesitate before it actually accelerates when i step on the throttle (2 seconds later, I will get a burst)...I want my car to have good acceleration from jump ALL THE TIME...

Have any of you faced this issue? How can I fix it without adding something to my car that won't make it loud and obtrusive? (I hate those guys with the mods that make their cars unbearably loud)

Thanks alot

Try the UR underdrive pulley. No changes in sound related with that one.

The UR Crank Pulley might help, but also, know that our cars are drive-by-wire setups, and some people have complained about the lack of an "instant" throttle response. It's a hit and miss, some say it's a problem, and others say that they've never noticed it. Also, maybe your fuel injectors need to be serviced? Just throwing out some ideas...

Btw, regarding the crank pulley, you can PM the site vendors here for pricing. It functions to "free up" the engine as you rev...so when you step on the gas, the engine will rev "easier".

www.unorthodoxracing.com will give the tech info on the lightweight pulley
then see Off Topic links at top of azine pages- click that - then the Sponsored Sales for all the approved azine vendors- you will see the UR pulley there from Excelerate

It's a lighterweight crank pulley, the stock crank pulley is a few lbs. heavier and requires more effort for the engine to push.

its normal for the TL i experience it often and i belive its heat related. Many people dont notice it as it can be felt only in lower range where u could say it loses its torque. An Intake seems to help a lot thoe give it a try......

I've been wondering what the UR Crank Pulley is all about as well. Any real info on this? Will search but will also look for answers here.

I use the same for the most part....if for some reason I can't get 93, I will use 91...

There have been alot of investigation done, and supposedly alot of the gas stations in Brooklyn, NY water down the gas...hopefully that is not the case but who knows...

I actually I did go through the link prior to posting the question on what an UR pulley actually is...I also googled the product and did not come up with any extensive/detailed results as to how this really benefits a drive-by-wire car like the TL...

BTW: I think your response was a little rude...I thought we were here to help each other out?!?!?

Standard Belt Layout (Underdrive)

Our Tuner Series crank pulleys provide HP & Torque gains across the entire RPM range. Power gains come from the reduction of weight. An average of 2.7 HP is gained from every pound lost off the crank shaft. 80-85% of our gains are from weight loss.

Additional power gains, between 15-20%, can be seen from underdriving all the accessories. We do not push the percentage of underdrivie to high for two main reasons. First it is important to keep charging systems, air conditioning, power steering, and water pumps moving fast enough for every day driving. Second not much horsepower is gained from extreme underdriving. We always keep our underdrive percentage under 20% which allows us to maintain factory spoecified output for all of the accessories. Our testing has shown that for most vehicles you can upgrade to a stereo of up to 600 watts (RMS) without any charging problems.

No other product on the market has a higher performance per dollar return than our Tuner Series crank pulleys. It can cost you as little as $9.50 per HP. Now that's amazing!

Our Tuner Series pulleys are available for Acura, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Subaru applications.

Simple explanation of underdrive and light-weight pulleys:

Think of it this way: your engine has to do work to turn every pulley that the aux. belt goes through. Buying a light-weight pulley is the same concept as buying a light-weight alloy wheel; If you lighten the pulley you reduce the amount of work the engine has to do to turn it by that much. It might not sound like much but a few pounds less drag in the belt drive can give a very noticable return in power delivery.

Buying an underdrive pullley is similar in concept to changing the gear ratio on a bicycle by changing the size of the main sprocket, exept you're chaning the ratio on your belt drive instead. While this can free up even more engine power than the light-weight pulley by allowing the engine to spin with less external drag, it can also have adverse effects on the accessories that depend on that original ratio to function properly. Your alternator, for example, may experience a reduction in current output (this would be most noticable if you have a large sound system or a lot of electrical accessories).

Hope that helps.

try UR Pulley + ATLP J-Pipe and maybe a CAT delete
no noticeable noise gain + better response

Forgot to mention, the pulley does not help drive-by-wire systems any more or less than cable-driven systems. The two components aren't related in that way. The pulley was suggested because the increased response it gives is a good way to compensate for the percieved lag that you are concerned with.

Got a Question~!

If its that helpful, why dont Acura make it like that when they make TL in first place originally??

exactly. if honda used that grade aluminum on every pulley on every car they would be paying for a huge amount of expensive and relatively rare materials, not to mention the extra labor that goes into working with that kind of material, all of which would be cost passed to the customer. The aftermarket deals quite nicely with those of us that demand that little extra. Everyone else is none the wiser of the compromise.
