Base 3G TL cat converter and 3G TL Type S Cat

There's a guy that claims he have a 07 Type S cat converter he wants to sell, But I'm not sure if it's actually what he says it is. How do i tell the difference between a base cat VS Type S? Can someone help with this?

measure the opening of the outlet. 2in = type-s 1.75in = base

Or straight up buy HFPC/PCD

I just got around to removing my base cat and the dimensions are exactly the same as what supposely is a type s cat converter. Its 2inch at the opening outlet also. Can someone explain what the difference is?

The type s cats use a less dence cat substrate or lower cell count core just like the hi flow cats. If you can see inside the cat the cores might look different. Swapping out cats unless they are bad is a lot of work for a small amount of power. I don't remember the cell counts, but I'm sure you can google it. The flange size will be the same on both the base and type s cats, if that is what you are measuring.

base is 900 cell count and type-s is 600. Correct me if I am wrong. HFPC for sure is 300 cell.

^ Correct, base is 900 cell count and Type-S is 600 cell count.

Try this (if you can inspect the cats before you buy them): cut a square of thick paper (yellow card stock works good) that is exactly 1" square and drop it in the bottom of the cat so that it sits flat on the catalyst substrate. Count the number of "cells" across one side of the square. Multiply the count times itself for the total number of cells. It doesn't have to be exact as there will be quite a difference between 900 and 600.

So aside from the internals of the cat the outsides and openings of type s ans base are the same is what your saying. Well i did swap it out to see if it makes some difference and havnt got the chance to take it for a spin yet but it was a easy job. Took me 30 mins to swap them out so it was fine for me.

The exterior is the same. The only difference is the substrate. Fewer cells means that each cell opening is slightly larger so it will flow better.

You probably won't see massive gains. Probably 2-3hp butt dyno probably won't detect it
