ATLP J-Pipe Flex Section Falling Apart

Last time I changed my oil I noticed that the flex section of my ATLP J-Pipe was literally falling apart, or at least the "mesh" portion of it is. I was late for something so I didn't have a chance to investigate it well but I did snap a few pictures (sorry for the cell phone quality). I'm not sure if there are any leaks yet. Just wondering if anybody else has had similar issues.

Thanks

why does the weld on the j-pipe look like crap? Looks like its not the oem weld for some reason cuz mine doesn't look like that. did you buy it second hand?

You should be able to hear it if its leaking, try looking at it in the morning while its cold and see if its leaking... It looks like its holding up horrible...

I bought one of the original j-pipes (V1, not V2) years ago straight from Mike so that is the original welding. Anyway, they may not look good but they are not what I'm concerned with right now.

Haven't really looked at mine since I put it on. Curious to know if others see a similar degradation.

Might have a look at mine this coming week-end.

I'd be interested in what you find on yours Bearcat since you've probably had yours on as long as I've had mine, although yours probably doesn't see as much snow/salt as mine. I'm due for another oil change so I'm going to take a closer look. I would like to know if others are having similar issues. Or, if this is a potential problem (not sure if the mesh portion of the flex pipe is simply cosmetic).

Btw - Bearcat (or another mod), can you fix the typo in the title? Thanks!

Wow, I hope mine doesn't do that, for 400.00 it better last awhile! Anyway just buy another section of flex and have it welded on. its the only way to fix it.

I noticed mine has similar deterioration on the back towards the bottom of the car. Not insane yet. But for owning it since December of 09. Wth... Wondering if there's a warranty on these things for a year or not... 400.00. Better be some explanation.

I have V2. But for not even a year of owning it. Surprised in they'd deteriorate that fast.

I have a v1 and it doesn't look like that. now I am scared..

anyways I think its best if you just cut it out now and get a new piece welded on.

I had a v1 and my flex section pretty much disappered and finally cracked almost all the way around the piping underneath that section.

I heard that there was an exhaust leak coming from underneath my car for a little bit and was shocked to see how bad the pipe held up, or lack there of.

I will give ATLP the benefit of the doubt though, as I put on about 35K miles a year so any part stock or not is going to take a beating. So in the end I just purchased a new J-pipe from Excelerate

i had this same problem, and actually the mesh was sitting in the middle of my JPipe RESTRICTING Flow dramatically. I took a picture of it and ill post it up, but let me find it first. I contacted him, and lucky it was just in warranty. I too also had the V1 Jpipe. Needless to say i was very unhappy that this happened considering it wasn't that old, but also thankful it was covered and replaced under warranty

Did you contact Mike from ATLP about it? Or Marcus from Heeltoe? Ask them and see what answers they have.

Most of the ATLP products i am finding all have a 3 years warranty. wouldnt be worried about it if you contact their warranty dept.

like most small business in this economy they probably want to make things right in order to keep good name and have repeat costumers. Show them what you have shown us and your probably be under warranty.

Um, doesn't the OEM J-pipe have mesh like this too? I've had my car for 3 years, and i don't see any issues. I sure hope this isn't common in ATLP V2, because I am about to buy one...

This why you need to run longer flex sections on FWD applications. The Maxima crowd had the same exact problem in various makes of y-pipes (same thing as your J-pipe). The fix is running significantly longer flex sections. These FWD v6 engines torque dramatically in their mounts and most of this movement is transferred to the flex section. If the flex section is too short, it stretches the wedding and ultimately ruins the wedding and the flex pipe.

Would this be the replacement part?

http://www.phantasmusa.com/atp2ssx6lofl.html

Not quite sure what the specs are for the J-pipe.. i believe it's 2.25? As for longer Flex pipe mentioned earlier, maybe it would be good to cut a longer opening for a longer flex pipe... not sure if that would alter the performance.

Mine did that a while ago too, I noticed a whine sound almost like a turbo whine than when I installed the rest of my exhaust i noticed the inside on the flex tube. Sent it back to MIke and he took care of it.
