ATLP Exhaust and Bumper issues. Need help

The exhaust has been ordered! and it should be here by the end of the month. I'm new to the forum but I did search and couldnt find exactly what i was looking for. I have an 04 base TL. Will the exhaust fit? can i modify/shave bumper? or do I HAVE to get the ASPEC?

You also could buy a type-s rear bumper + type-s A-spec lip.
Costly, but easiest way IMO.

^ how is that the easiest way

Some have stupidly completely sawed off the entire bottom portions of their bumpers, when all you have to do is trim a box dead in the middle and then cut the opening wider and install the lip

No way is it easier to get an unpainted bumper painted and expect it to match

I went the costly way, and bought a type s rear bumper and a type s rear aspec kit (not required).

My friend went the cheap and simple way, as he has an 04 base TL. He cut out the exhaust housings to make the quads fit on each side, then we slapped a rear TYPE S aspec kit over it, which conceals the cuts.

You're lucky I found my thread, scroll down and you'll see pics of his rear bumper hacked up (me hacking it up actually rofl) where the blue tape is.

Good luck!

I went the expensive but cleaner way of buying a type-s bumper, having it painted and installed. $3 for the bumper, $ to paint it and $1 to install. I have a NBP car so the paint matched up and I got a employee discount on the bumper. If you go this direction have the shop get the bumper because it is 9 feet long and hard to transport without a truck. I would say buy the a-spec rear lip cut the bumper to clear the quads and be done with it for $200.

So if i cut? the a-spec lip will cover the new existing gaps between the tips and actual bumper?

Yes. Just be conservative with the trim and don't cut above the "groove" on the bumper. Cuts don't have to be clean or professional since the A-spec bumper will cover it up anyway.

Yeah, in terms of left and right, the cuts were perfect but I realized i didn't even have to cut so high up (above the housing).

You're gonna need a Type-S rear A-Spec ... 07-08. It sounds like you ordered a 04-06 Base A-Spec rear. You are installing the ATLP Type-S exhaust right?

Cut him some slack man ... he's got the first mod jitters and just wants to be sure.

TomTL ... yes, you're golden with the 07-08 Type-S rear lip for your ATLP Type-S exhaust ... now go get some sharp blades for that Sawzall and start mapping out where the surgery is going to be performed on the rear bumper ... remember, better to cut too little than too much

I appreciate the help fellas. thanks, got a few mods done. just not whole hyped up on TL's that its all i think of so i might need help where a lot of guys don't.

*edit* i called Tim and he said "aspec type-s" lips don't exist. its just considered type-s(no a-spec). so maybe that is what made me double check. just a little new to acura. thanks for the slack. shhhhitttt

Dude ... Part # is dependant on color of your car ... bookmark this site for reference and future use: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/home.jsp

Here's the link for the 2007-2008 A-Spec rear ... choose by color:
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/prddisplay2.jsp

This is not rocket science ... plenty of AZ'ers are willing to help but you gotta do some of your own legwork ... you have access to the same resources we all have and use on a regular basis ... end of lecture

Well considering i have a blue 04. they dont make the type-s in my color so i have to repaint anyway. and the part numbers only end in a different suffix if the color is different. See? and now you're telling me to go to a totally different site. i dont know these websites off hand like a lot of you guys. gimme a break. but thanks for the help as well. I'm just saying if i can get a part number and let this moron know over at hondaacuraworld.com that he keeps sending the wrong shit.

How would any of us know what color your car is since you you didn't specify that in your post? The website I gave the link to is for referencing part #'s only ... comes in real handy when ordering parts from any online dealer. Also, Google "Acura OEM parts" ... many websites available to get OEM part #'s from and also fiche for visual confirmation. Unfortunately, I don't think the OEM parts listing is available through hondacuraworld, hence the referral to the other site. None of us knew all this in the beginning but we learned by looking ... so look; and check that attitude at the door if you expect others to help you with anything

Ok let's not turn this into some petty forum battle. I do appreciate all the help I've got from everyone. I just don't really like being ripped into becuase yes... i might be a little in the dark on this. I thought the purpose of forums is to help others and share ideas right? So if i can't find the answer when searching old threads, yes i'm gunna ask. SO forgive me if i was asking questions under this pretense, and believe me there is no sarcasm/rhetoric whatsoever in that.

Ok back to my issue... that website was good for part num's. but i couldnt find the rear lip on there to match a part number to. i searched using keywords. it was brief so, believe me, i apologize in advance.

*edit* the color of my car wasn't really an issue b/c i was gunna paint at a local shop anyway. i just want the right lip so i can get this damn exhaust on my car! ughh

SO what i did was search the part number in yahoo!. it came up as an 08 type-s rr spolier. And i spoke to TIM when i ordered and i asked for the type-s ASPEC(as advised by AZ'ers). and he said that doesn't exist as i posted a few days ago. he said it's just the type-s RR spoiler. So this is basically my issue now. Does this guy not know what he's talkin about. cuz i did browse further and couldn't fine the aspec rr spoiler on the oem acura parts. so if i can just get this sorted out that'll be the end of me annoying and inconviencing the forum any further. thanks for everything guys

The rear lip you are looking for is part of the A-Spec body kit for the 2007-2008 TL-S. What is the part # you are working with? Tim knows what he's talking about but I'm guessing there is a "failure to communicate" between buyer and seller. The part # I find using the link I provided is: 08F03-SEP-XXXB ... the X's signify a different number dependant on color code, which apparently doesn't concern you; so pick one.

OK i sincerely appreciate the help. that's the exact part number i recieved but it looks nothing like the lips i see used. the lower portion of the lip is all plastic basically. Whereas when i see it on here there is a small middle "grate look" plastic piece and two other plastic pieces surrounding exhaust tips. i took a pic and will upload soon

That is a A-Spec rear lip for base TL? What is the exact part # for that part, including color code?

This is the rear lip you want ... thanks to sT04Louis for use of the pic of his Type S. This explains why you are so bent about the sitch ... 2 wrong shipments from the same vendor will do that to any TL'er

Type S rear lip, compliments of sT04Louis ...
