APC mufflers

Do APC mufflers still live up to the bad reputation I remember them having? It has been about ten years since I had any involvement with this type of thing (growing up will do that to you), but now I am considering some mufflers for my car and I was wondering if they are still "Another Piece of Crap" as we used to call them or if they've improved at all. They have some on summitracing.com for much less than the price I am finding on other universal mufflers, which tells me there's probably a reason for that. If they still are ricer material, I'll look at Magnaflow or A'pexi maybe. Thanks for any advice.

I havent ever heard of them, and if they are much cheaper then i would think it is safe to say that they are still crap. Most people go with magnaflow...that would be my recomendation

Thanks. I know usually if something is drastically less expensive than other comparable products, there's something wrong with it...at the same time I hate overpaying for something just for the sake of it. I think I'll avoid them all the same.

Yea paying more just for a name is stupid, I couldnt agree more, but getting Magnaflow mufflers is worth it if thats what you want to do. You wont be over paying by going with those

apc <- I seen a isuzu rodeo or whatever it is called with a big ass apc decal... aside from that I had a type r replica grill on my civic made by apc... beyond that, apc is total crap....

if you want to replace ur mufflers... either do a full catback or do HKS canisters... I had skunk2 canisters, which were good but don't look as good as the hks canisters...

Ractive mufflers?

Just so as not to start another thread...anyone have opinions about Ractive mufflers? They also had kind of a ricy reputation many years ago, but I remember some liking them. I am really into their black chrome finish. They have universal mufflers with integrated tips or just tips. If the mufflers are bad, maybe I'll go with a different universal and see if I can attach a couple of their oval shaped black chrome tips. By the way I'm overwhelmed with Magnaflow...way too many choices for me. Also A'pexi has a black in their universal N1 but I can't find a decent picture of it. I know it would be best to do a full catback but I am trying to keep this cost at maybe $400-500 plus or minus, installed.

Well I wouldnt worry too much about what they look like, the mufflers are so burried underneath that you really wont be able to see them anyway...your budget is possible, I would still recomend the magnaflow, there should be a thread somewhere on the exact part numbers you need...or you could be a first and do something like Borla (i think only one other person on here has done borla), but unfortunately your budget is going to make it hard, actually you should consider doing what I am doing, I had the same vision in mind with the magnaflow mufflers and now I am actually going to get the ATLP J-pipe and Race pipe. These two things will increase both performance and sound, and should keep it very close to your budget (399 on J-pipe, 125 on race pipe), this maybe your best bet. Then if it still isnt loud enough then you should put on a Magnaflow Resonator and cut out the mid-muffler (like 80 installed) and it will increase the sound. I think for what your looking to spend and what your looking to get out of it, the mufflers may not be the way to go for you for right now
