Anyway to Quiet Down Exhaust?

Hey guys, I just finished installing the rv6 precat deletes after a nightmare of installing I started her up, and heard a nice grunt. Fine. I go out for a normal drive and it is so raspy from 3 grand to rev limiter. No matter how slow I drive or what gear i'm in I either get crazy drone, and hella rasp. I'm running 2.5'' piping back to apex'i n1, with a stock jpipe. My friends say a resonator won't do much help, but I should install my 3rd cat back on?

I'm assuming theres no restriction now, and honestly I didn't think it would be that loud. My friends also told me that I should get the stock exhaust welded back on to gain back some low end torque. Should I do that or what do you think would be the best option? Thanks guys.

You can run a really long resonator. What the resonator will do is tune your exhaust to make it sound less raspy. Thats what I ran on my old car. It was raspy as hell so I got 36" of resonator and it helped it out a lot. But if you really want to quiet it down a mid muffler would help it out a lot.

You are running no cats, the car is going to be loud.

I don't know where ur friend is getting that idea but a resonator will help clean up that raspy sound... as well as increase a bit of back pressure depending on how chambered the resonator is . I would suggest u install a resonator where the stock one used to be....I've had about every exhaust set up u could possibly imagine on the tl over the years..and a resonator will do its job.

I installed a long round muffler just behind the drivers seat to lessen the drone. It's a straight through design and cut the drone down but didn't eliminate it. It exists around 2.5K and is tolerable. With a 6MT I can work it in or out. But as Opel says, a true resonator will do the trick.

I have RV6 precats, jpipe, test pipe, and the Greddy EVO2s.. I had a honda civic rasp at 3K.. Then I added an Aero 12" resonator and it was perfect. A nice deep tone and yet no rasp. My car is still dumb loud though, but it doesnt bother me as long as theres no civic rasp

+1. I have a similar set-up; Aero 25 worked for me as well.

CC Insert will kill the drone and lower the volume a bit, it works great. I created a thread for it below.

Hey got any videos of your setup? I'm interested on how the Aero res changes up the evo2's...did that kill the drone as well?

Yeah i read about the aero resonators. Looks decent, and i heard nothing but good things from them. I'll post a clip of how mine sounds. It's really really loud. I just don't want it to rasp, and be noticeable that i'm not running any cats

If you dont want the rasp to be noticeable resonators are your friend (lower the frequency of your exhaust a bit also). If you want to quiet down add a muffler to the mix.

Ya I started a thread last week right after I installed my deletes. I cant stand the sound of the rasp and it does happen right after 3000 rpms. Really a resonator will help?? I thought it sounded like a heatshield rattling but were all def talking about the same thing. How come some people have no rasp and sound great with similar mods?

I also still have my stock types exhaust.Ccan I use the stock resonator and have it welded in or something?

Bpham I still have my mid muffler and if i already have to chop up the exhaust for the resonator you can get my mid muff of me. I dont really want quieter I just want to clean up the sound.

That sounds good tlabuser, let me know. I'll figure it out, until then. I think i'm gonna order the aero resonator and see how it sounds and take it from there. I mean the sound is controllable, but when i open the throttle, it sounds like gtfo my way

try to get the longest resonator you can get. It will eliminate the rasp and some of the drone.

Josh from excelerateperformance reccomended the Vibrant ultra-quiet resonator. I might give that a try.
