any hp gain by modifying stock exhaust to 2.5"?

I have a stock type s exhaust that I really don't want to change because I like the way it looks and I like it quiet. However, I also would like a 2.5" exhaust to flow better with my 2.5" j pipe and add a little hp so my question is: Will simply having the main 2.25" pipe changed to 2.5" for better flow add any hp?

Funny you bring this up, as I HATE the weed wacker sound all exhausts for our cars produce.... I think the larger piping in conjuction with a highflow cat or cat delete with the STOCK mufflers to keep it quite may reveal a few ponys, I know the sound WILL change some with the larger piping but will not sound like a weed wacker with a full exhaust, I had an integra type R with the same set up and althought is slightly changed the stock exhaust note a bit, it was not loud and stupid like a full exhaust.

I may actually attempt this with a dyno/write up/video/audio comparison.

I even went as far as thinking what the possible out comes " as far as sound and better performance " would be by buying two stock M3 exhausts mufflers and having those mated with a 2.5 exhaust and installed on my S, and save tons of money, like I said I am SURE you will see some power gained, but until one of us tries this, dynos, and posts, its all theoretical opinion.

Sweet! I would love to see those dynos! I'm pretty sure that I will do this mod but I won't have a b4 dyno. I do plan on doing a dyno pull after all is done that I have planned.

well FYI, doing just a POST dyno will tell you nothing, you want to have a PRE dyno and a few at that, to establish at least a decent average base, then a few POST for a decent post power... if you dont do both then dont wast your time or money on JUST one or the other since it will reveal nothing to you

Not worried about each gain I just want to see what kind of #'s a tl with 220k miles can put down with some simple bolt ons, lol. I would like to see 1 on the exhaust though to know if it helps any but it looks like it would have to. After everything is said and done I'm gonna post the sheets and see who can guess the closest probably be the beginning to mid of 11' gotta wait for a free dyno day too, lol..
