AEM Intake

Just received my intake this morning after a long wait. But now I need to get it installed. I could probably do it myself but I don't really have the time or the place to do it. Does anybody know of a place I can get it installed at around New York City, Long Island, or New Jersey. Thanks.

3 hours or less, a couple basic tools and you'll save yourself the cost of having someone else do it for you. Plus you learn some things about your car, I had fun installing mine in my own garage.

I would love to do the install myself but I don't really have space to seeing as how I live in Manhattan. I could probably go over to somebody's house and do it but still trying to figure it out. We'll see.

why don't you just wait a couple more months and get the 4G 2009 model?

and why are you shopping for mods 8 months before you get the car?

check with some of the Acurazine vendors first...Excelerate or Mr.HeelToe come to mind

...or else try eBay or Summit Racing (www.summitracing.com)

I just got mine from Excelerate and it was shipped out super quick. I was happy to support the vendors and forum by doing so.

Now just waiting a few days to get it installed...

Yeah, I got mine from Excelerate too. He posted a group buy in the black market section so you might want to ask him more about the 08 intakes. You are planning quite ahead though.

Other than that, does anybody know of a semi-reasonable priced place that can do the install for me in Long Island, NYC, or New Jersey?

Do you think any mechanic can perform the install?

Believe me, I really do want to do it myself...maybe I will, I could probably just drive out to my girlfriend's house and do it there...how long did it take you? And do you need any specific tools?

Another hopeful option, if my fellow AZ'ers are as nice as I believe...

...Maybe somebody from the New York area will help me with the install. I was reading through the installation instructions that came with it and it says that I would have to mess with the emissions stuff and take out the whole battery. I probably could do it myself but I would like someone who has already done it to maybe be there and help me along. Anybody in New York? Long Island? New Jersey?

LOL, i'd help you out if i was in NY, but i'm still stuck in St. Louis.....

look it's REALLY really simple...it shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours... there are so many threads with pictures etc etc.....and if you want, throw me a PM and i'll give you my number, i bet i could probably walk you step by step thru it on the phone.

all you really need is to make sure you got the tools, but if you're living in a permanent residence, i'd invest in good jack, jack stands, wrenches etc anyway ~ i got shafted and am still living in a university housing, so dont have the luxery of space....

anyway, i'd suggest you look on the forums there's so many guides for the AEM

I searched and I searched...

I came across a few threads but one of them was all pictures and the guy stopped hosting the pictures off some website so they couldn't be found!

JCL622, thanks for the offer. I want to see what happens but I am definitely trying to do it this weekend so if all goes well, I wouldn't mind a walk-through over the phone, if that is a real idea?

Right now, I'm back at home till the end of the summer but the only problem is that I live in an apartment in Manhattan so investing in a jack and jack stands might be a problem unless I leave them at my girlfriend's house along with a bunch of other stuff of mine that's sitting in her garage. But you're right, the luxury of a garage and just some space to work on my car would be amazing!

I'll keep searching but anybody in New York willing to help? Please?

when you or someone installs it for you, make sure the engine is cooled off. Otherwise when you pull out the radiator hose, it will make ugly mess on your engine. Make sure someone knows about installing this thing.....it's not that easier than it seems. Lot of people claim that it's easy....it's nothing.....but face it. TL is not like honda civic or accord. It has lot of cesors located in your engine. When engine indicator comes on dued to your installation, and ask dealer to code in and turn it off.......your engine warranty is already voided. Lot of dealers are lenient about installing CAI, but when CAI makes problems like that they will not like it. So my suggestion is to find someone who's done this many times with no problem, or take it to a performance shop.

Thanks for the information, that's really vital. I'm definitely looking for someone who has previous experience installing a CAI and hopefully I'll find someone to help me out this weekend!

I got a new AEM intake that I'm planning to install soon. I'm 2 hours north of the city. Only thing is I want to pass inspection before the installation and I know I won't pass now because I need new tires. Anyhow, here is the DIY link

I came across that DIY link previously but apparently the thread starter stopped hosting the pictures so there are unavailable.

the directions that come with the box are pretty straight foward, again, throw me a PM if you want to describe it over the phone or something....but overall, i mean, compared to the Fujita instructions, the AEM wasn't too hard to figure out at all.

JCL622, we might have to do that because I don't seem to be getting any type of responses here. But before we plan this out, I need to find a nice space for me to do the install and I think it won't be till next weekend till I find the space. But I'll let you know through a PM or something. Honestly, I'm kinda scared to mess with the ECU and all that stuff.

Could have done that anyways! Wish you would have told me before! Damn! But anyways, I'll get you back. Maybe I could give you a discounted rate on my rims, if and when I decide to sell them that is! But other than that, let me know.

My cousin and I did the AEM CAI install in just under 2 hours and a couple of beers. It was simple and fun to do. Instructions were pretty clear.
We let the car cool down first. We didn't have to do anything related to coolant fluid...nothing leaked. We did not remove the front bumper.
I LOVE the sound and definitely noticed a performance increase.
My TL color is Anthracite and my AEM CAI is blue...SEXY!

Next addition, clearbra.

Cheers.
