Adding XLR8 Exhaust to Customized Exhaust

Hello all,

I have a base 2006 manual 3rd Gen TL.

A few months ago I upgraded my exhaust from factory to a 2.5” stainless steel custom exhaust I got done at a shop. The guy there deleted from the California cat under the car all the way to the tips (deleting the two resonators and gave me low restriction mufflers and quad tips). He did great work and the car sounds pisser.

I’ve been reading that upgrading part of the exhaust with something like the XLR8 J-pipe, etc. How would this installation work/work period if I have my custom exhaust now welded to the old exhaust right before where the California Cat used to be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would assume any reputable shop can do this.

What does "sounds pisser" mean?

What I was looking to find out is what exactly is replaced when the XLR8 JV-2 pipe is installed, and since my exhaust has now been welded to the old exhaust pipe right before where the old California cat used to be would that be an issue for where the JV-2 pipe would go?

Btw “sounds pisser” means sounds great.

Some aftermarket J-pipes are longer than the factory, and some are the same size. If you picked one of the longer ones that eliminates the third cat, you would just have to have an exhaust shop modify the section of the exhaust where the third cat used to be to match the new J-pipe. If your current exhaust is already welded to the factory J-pipe it sounds like some welding/work will be required regardless.
