About to invest in Stage 3 mod for my '07 Base TL, bad decision?

I just swapped out my mid muffler for 2.25 straight pipping and achieved STAGE 1 .

I'm about to install the dynomax 24215 resonator tomorrow, but my question for those who are more knowledge able:

If I have 1000 to spend on one modification, performance and exhaust sound in mind, should I do the stage 3 tomorrow?

Is there something else I should be doing that's a better option ?

That all depends on what you've already done to it.

If you are going to get an actual exhaust, then don't waste time and money on stage exhausts. That said, I love my stage 3 with the 24235 resonator. But then, I wasn't concerned about performance, and I knew I had no plans of a real exhaust set up.

Stage mods don't give you performance, only sound.

If you want performance and sound spend your $1,000 towards a cat-back system.

If you've got a grand to spend on mods and your car is completely stock, do the stage 3 and then order the Aspec kit or something.

But, if you've already got some mods then ditch the stage 3 and order an aftermarket catback.

I bought it last week, so the only thing I've done is remove the mid muffler and add 2.25 straight piping

True, but do you know if the dynomax wlk 24215 will fit my 07 base tl ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a cat back system is an entire exhaust swap starting before the mid muffler?

The only mod I have is the stage 1 so far. I would love to get a combination of aesthetics and performance with 1000, but from what research I've done in the past week, I haven't found anything compelling

Both dynomax models will fit, they will just sound a little different. 24235 was proven to sound great with no rasp, so I went with that one.

If you have a grand to spend and a stock car, I would say a spec lip kit, spacers, and save a little more for springs or even more for coilovers. This will make it look like a whole new car. $1000 on exhaust on a stock car yields you...a very slightly quicker car that still looks like every other TL out there, people would just be confused as to why it is loud.

Just my , obviously coming from a guy without a single performance mod besides suspension.

Ill agree. If I were in your shoes Id purchase the A-Spec kit and do some other small things like maintenance items, or continue saving for suspension. The A-Spec kit really makes the TL pop and stand out from every other one on the road. Id save exhaust mods or getting a catback for later down the road.

OP ask yourself what are your goals? Do you want performance and a little of cosmetics or just some sound and all cosmetics?

As others have said, if you have $1k to spend on mods, do it on some visually appealing mods, the A-Spec kit is a great start, and then coils, maybe wheels, and so on.

KJ made a good point about having a loud stock TL, the car needs some modifications at least to warrant having a catback.

Also, if you plan on doing the stage 3 and maybe later down the road adding a j-pipe, you're going to want the longer resonator (24235) because the shorter one you have will not kill rasp, it'll sound like a 4-banger Civic with a coffee can exhaust.

You'd get better gains out of a J pipe and PCD's than a catback, for the same or less money. The Dynomax resonator is only about $40. Why do you feel obligated to spend the whole $1k on one mod?

I couldnt justify myself to spend a $1000+ dollars on a new catback. went ahead and order dynomax 24235 resonator. cost me $63.90 from summitracing.com and i only took a day to receive!! $1000 bucks can buy u several items for your car.

so there's been threads done on the 4 different stages of exhaust mods and their sounds.

then someone did a video on xlr8 vs atlp cat-backs comparison video.

has anyone compared the sounds of the 4 stages to the cat-back sounds? are there cat-backs that sound like a stage 1 or 2? which stage sound like a particular cat-back?

Idk if there have been comparsion videos of stage mods to catbacks, but a lot of people go the stage 3 route because of the deeper tone. thats what i got
