3G return fuel system
3G return fuel system
I am gathering the last pieces needed to get the new engine installed and need some help with what parts are needed for the fuel return system. Another question is whether the fuel rails are same for j32's.
I guess my real question is what fuel regulator are people using and how is the fuel tank tapped for the return of fuel? P2R shows a j32z3 fuel rails, which I'm guessing is a typo.
I think bmeyer was using either the Aeromotive or AEM FPR. They're pretty standard. The return is just a drilled hole in the top of the fuel pump unit with the appropriate fuel tank or bulkhead fitting.
I've got the list saved at home. I'll see if I can find it.
Not sure about the fuel rails. It might be in the list as well.

Here's the list I got to build the return system
P2R Fuel Rails
AEM FPR
(4) 30 degree
(4) 45 degree
(5) 90 degree
(3) straight fitting
(1) nylon washer
(1) lock nut
(1) bulkhead -6
(1) y fitting
(7) #6 radius to oring flare
What's not on this list is the EFI fitting to connect to the factory hose. I think some are clipping the hose from the firewall to the rails but you can get a fitting that will use AN style hoses. I forget off the top of my head if it's a male or female fitting.
Something like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-644003/overview/
You just need to check if its 5/16 or 3/8, male or female.
I also checked out the rails on P2R. The url says j32z3 and the title says J37, but the description says j32a3.

The addition of the bulkhead fitting to the top of the fuel assembly is pretty straightforward. I think others are drilling out the button on top of the assembly

And then clearing out enough of the support plastic underneath to get the nut on. Just make sure to use washers to get a good seal and orient the fitting to work around the pressure side line

Hope this helps.

This is exactly what I am looking for, thanks.

return from the regulator imo would consist of the following:
6an orb fitting - for fuel pressure regulator
6an straight hose end
6an hose
two options here.
A.
6an 90 degree hose end
to
6an bulkhead
B.
6an straight hose end
to
90 degree 6an bulkhead

The fitting you'll want to connect to the factory line in the engine bay is this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-644113 This one uses a small threaded cap to secure the fitting to the line. I tried one of the snap style fittings and it would not slip over the line. Truthfully, I like this one better since it's a lot stronger than the snap in ones.
What I would strongly recommend is to install a 90 degree bulkhead in the top of the fuel pump hat, then connect your pump up to it with a piece of hose and an AN-to-barb fitting and then run a new supply line to the engine bay. You can secure it to the existing lines under the car. Then use the factory feed line as the new return line.
I ended up putting together 2 setups (because the stuff Rodney sent sucked) and I learned a lot from it in the process. Ironically, I just bought the parts to put a new E85 compatible fuel system in the M3. Dual pumps, surge tank, feed lines are -10 P.T.F.E., return is -8 P.T.F.E. and ID2000 injectors.
I decided to go with Aeromotive for the FPR, filter and check-valve this time. I never had any issues with the AEM, but the Aeromotive is definitely a heavier duty unit. Another company you can check out is Fuelab. They make some nicer, high-end stuff.
If you need any help, just PM me and I'll get you guided in the right direction. Have AccordFlex post some detailed pics and hose lengths from my old setup. I was very happy with the way that turned out.

Nice, thanks. I am gathering the last of the parts I need to get the engine installed. I still need to have the valve stem seals replaced and get new clutch disks for the twin disk. Bert's disks look good, but I feel stupid not changing them out while I have the car apart. I should have most of the kit by next week and can chase down the last parts needed.
