30 HP Increase

What's the most cost effective way to get a 30 HP increase on my 08 TL Type-S?

Word... Although I love the sc, kinda wish I would have gone direct port wet kit. Maybe save a little tranny life as well as the adjustable hp aspect. Plus more gadjets

i wouldn't run nos on a daily driver. Seems like a waste. I don't care how you manage the system. Your engine will pay the price quickly...

I would run a simple NX wet kit. (same as I had on my 2003 CLS and 1997 Accord) No problems at any time.

The fact that it is a daily driver should not come into play because you wont be driving around with it armed at all time. You could make the arguement that turbos and sc as worse off for the engine and tranny because the power is always there.

50 or a 75 wet should be plenty IMO. And with a throttle switch it wont open up unless your WOT and armed. Other than that it drives like a normal car. Nitrous is not a bad power adder...Movies just kill what it can do. Its cheap and its effective. I think a few members on here run nitrous and they havent had issues on the 3g TL. As how they hooked it I have not looked into that.

J-pipe is one of the cheapest mods for the power that you can get from the TL.!

who says it doesnt produce power? I think you're confused.

Dave, just look here and read. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/rv6-v3-long-tube-j-pipe-release-04-08-tl-all-trims-%2A%2Aupdate-page-4%2A%2A-773591/

Richie just came out with an exhaust, coupled with his v3 jpipe, it can produce 36 Average hp over the power band.

A "pulley" is really a under drive pulley, also confusing as you can get an underdrive or std size... but it replaces you stock crank shaft pulley that drives all the acc. belts with a light weight alum. one. 8 lbs stock to maybe a pound for aftermarket= more power!

iirc, not actually sure the pulley has ever been proven to "make" power o_O but from what i've read, many members have reported it gives your car a quicker feel... like killing that lag you get when you punch it...

for sure...you will need some sort of forced induction.. unless you have deep pockets and you want to go all motor. 30hp to the wheels or crank is alot.. and it will cost you either way..

Technically, it's not supposed to "make" power, but free it up...in addition to the weight savings, if it's an "underdrive" pulley, then you're spinning certain accessories slower, thus "freeing" horsepower for, uh, other uses... That said, I've no direct experience with them on the TL, have a set on an '89 IROC, but they've been there forever, can't recall my initial impressions...but that description is probably accurate, it's not something that, by itself, is going to blow you away...

Same can be said for exhaust, you are not "making" power, you're "unleashing" it, lol...

The pulleys? That's interesting, well, I'd actually love to be wrong in this case...just can't imagine them doing more than the new RV6 dual setup + J-pipe etc...more noticeable than a CAI, now that I could see...but who knows, it may be way more weight savings, etc., as opposed to the setup on my Z28.

Do you know the specific brand/part # that was being referred to?

^^^ with a combo as you mentioned, im sure those gains are going to far outweigh the gains felt by a simple pulley. especially as i've read the j-pipe alone is very noticeable as well.

as for gains by a single mod, the pulley is up there for mods that are most "noticeable".

as i stated before, i'm not sure if the UR standard pulley has been dyno proven, but i've been told and have read on here that it, alone, is one of the more noticeable mods for the car. not saying it has better gains than an exhaust combo, but like i said, people admit to feeling the car respond well to this mod.

not sure if that made sense =\

all in all, have been told the pulley is definitely worth it, unless you're going sc. but thats another story lol.

tmarks- if all you have done is the j-pipe, i would suggest getting a full catback first before you venture into going catless ( if you bought richies v3 than i'm pretty sure it deleted the 3rd cat) and you are going to have a pretty noticeable smell.

with a catback it should open up more gains for the j-pipe, and if you want more sound, adding a cai along with the exhaust should give your car plenty of growl.

now if you want pure performance, sure get pre-cats, however i've read it gets raspy, and again it comes with smell...

imo : Exhaust, CAI, and then if you're still not happy, go ahead and get some pre-cat deletes.

I feel that a 30HP increase with just a j-pipe, Cat Back & CAI is a bit optimistic. The UDP will help but if any one has done an ECU flash, I feel that this is where the most gains can be had.
