2007 TL-S Auto to Manual swap/conversion Part 2

Okay... So since my first thread failed with no pictures. I am starting a part two.. I am currently doing a Auto to Manual Swap in my 07 TL-S. I have taken some pictures on the way and currently not completed yet but I decided to go ahead and started to post some pictures of what I have done so far. Hopefully some of you guys will enjoy the pictures. I bought a crashed 07 TL-S 6speed from Copart to start this project. So far it has been quite a project even though its seems to be a simple swap over lol.. Will update as i go.

Old Picture of a few years back.

Engine bay picture of how it sits in my Garage.

The Silver 07 TL-S is a Manual 6speed that I am taking it apart to transfer to my TL-S.

How it sits with the Engine/Trans out of the car.

How my TL-S sits right now with the current swap out of the car.

Picked up a few goodies on the way...

So the biggest issue i ran through so far is installing the clutch pedal... If you are thinking about doing this 6-speed conversion in your Auto TL. Please be prepared cut into your firewall and make sure you have the mounting hardware that comes with it. Here is a picture of where my fuse box wiring harness goes through the firewall and uses the place where the Master cylinder should go. I had to cut into the firewall and pull the wiring harness over in order to install the Master.

Here is a picture of the Master Cylinder in the Parts car. Notice i had to drill out the Plate in between the firewall. This will be used on my current car as a spacer for the bolts and also lets me know where to drill my holes.

This is the upper bracket that you will need to mount on your car for the Pedal. I also had to drill this out and figure a way to mount it in my car. It isn't so bad but definitely took some time to make sure everything lined up so the pedal is not off centered.

Here's how it looked like once i drilled out the welded spots off the parts car.

Here's how my car looks like from the interior. I decided to pull the dash as it will be way easier for me to install the pedals and do the work. Also my dash is all cracked up and the parts car had a nicer dash with no cracks... YET...

Here's a picture of the new clutch pedal installed with the new brake pedal as well. Also decided to buy a new master cylinder from Acura so i know there will not be an issue going forward as these are a PITA getting to.

Also got a this as a bday gift that will be going into the car.

Replace all of that foam gasket around the HVAC ducts while it is apart. Looks like it is already crumbling apart.

That shifter...... is literally a piece of art!! It's BEAUTIFUL!!!
Having just done my slave and master at 160K, I honestly thought the master was going to be a lot harder than it actually was. With the strut tower removed, fusebox pushed over and master BRAKE cylinder unbolted from the booster gave me just enough room to remove/replace the master. But I have skinny arms/hands, soo....

Did you re-spot weld the clutch pedal mount to the firewall? Or nut/bolt?

Keep up the awesome work

Drilled holes and nut with bolt did the trick. I wish i had a welder with some skills lol.

Went with the Clutch Master's FX250 kit and with their 12lb flywheel combo. Also doing the Water pump, Timing belt, seals, etc for the new engine going in.

Got the K-Tuned Shifter box installed. Cables not on the trans yet but i can tell the shifting is going to be great.

Update****

So I ran into some issues when looking at the transmission mounts for the AUTO and Manual. The sub-frame mounting bracket for the trans is completely different... Thank goodness I have an entire car to go off of or i would have been in some real issue when trying to install the engine/trans into the car. I had to remove the Parts car's subframe and swap it over to my current car when attempting the swap. I do not have a picture of the engine in yet but it is all mounted and bolted in the car. (After a long weekend) Here are some pictures of the different sub-frames.

Finally got the interior almost button up. Here is a picture of the new Shift Knob/Shifter boot.

Thanks, appreciate the reply! It does help having the entire car side by side with mine. Also my brother who helped me along the way, who work as a Tech @ Lexus so that's always a plus.

My next step is tackling down axles, suspension, coolent/vaccum hoses, exhaust. Also I remembered I will need to swap over the immobilizer chip from the parts car key to my key so i dont have to take it to the dealer to have it flashed. Hopefully if i dont run into any big issues, planning on having this thing run by this weekend! Stay tuned for a video.

LOL, Thanks! This has to be one of the nicest shifting feel. I've owned S2000's, Integra's, Rsx and Civic's. None of them feel as good as this shifter box. I did not mention above but i did do the shifter cable bushing upgrade and Slave cylinder check valve delete .

I want a flash pro as well. I haven't pulled the trigger yet since they are about 690.00. But soon I will definitely purchase one.

I had one on this car 3.5 years ago...
but I sold it off and troubleshot some shit and then sold the car.
Now I'm back at it thinking about tempting fate.

After the tune to accommodate all the breather mods I'm certain you won't hesitate.
Curious, did you use DOM?

By all accounts, a 2G auto to manual swap is trivial compared to the same swap for a 3G; good luck and keep us posted.

eh I would say both would the same difficultly more than likely. the 2g tl doesn't come 6spd so figuring out the wiring was fun. and by all account the 3g tl did so if would be a straight swap out. being that I plan to do it the same way the OP is by having 2 cars and swaping parts over

I might suggest you search this site; there are far more failures than successes when comes to this type of swap. There was a post a year or two back where someone had done both and said the 3G was significantly more difficult.

I don't even fully remember but something to the effect of a botched manual swap job...butchered...then tried to sell it as a perfect car to another forum member...
don't quote me but I recall him not being presented in the best light when the dust settled.

I mean I get that you guys don't know me at all just some guy on the internet lol but you saw my last build Rockstar, im pretty sure im more than capable of doing this, I can understand some ppl not being able to complete something or take short cuts but hey in "theory" its just swapping all the components from one car to another. unless there is some kind of extreme difference in the 2 cars, I don't see it being all that bad lol. now if he had a 04 and tried to piece something together or got pieces from another year model like the 08 then that might be a issue but I plan to get a 08 and then the parts car will also be a 08 as well. making it again in "theory" a straight swap

Jesus Christ that was horrid to read, I feel so bad for that guy, but from I read it was a badyard mechanic that pulled on over on him. that guy did a bunch of "custom" work and never had it all working right. I do think mine will go much smoother than that for sure. that guy also just "ordered" all the swap parts too. so yeah ill be fine. but thx for the info and concern guys.

but good luck to the OP cant wait to see it completed

If you have the entire car side by side with your project car. You should be able to complete it but that doesn't say there is alot to do and consider.

This project was definitely not an easy one. So far I have completed the swap/conversion and the car is now running so I can say I am one of the few that made it lol..

Will post updates in a few with pictures. Sorry for the delay but this car was kicking my ass for the last week or so.

How about the little things like the power seat memory which also recalls exterior mirror settings? It seems to me that was one of the niggling little problems which has cropped up on several cars which in turn indicated other issues with wiring harnesses and such.

**********UPDATE*********

I knew that when the time comes to start up the car, i would either have to take the car into Acura to get the key re-programmed or find a way to move the Immobilizer chip from the "Parts car" key into my original key. I attempted to do this after finding a thread on here but it doesn't seem like this worked... So after swamping the immobilizer chip over, I attempted to start up the car and all i can hear is the car cranking over but not fire up. I was pretty disappointing as i saw the "GREEN FLASHING KEY" continuously flash on the dash board meaning the immobilizer is not reading the chip on the key. This being said, i knew i had to take the car into Acura which totally sucks. I could have swapped over the ignition and run the "Parts car" key but I would have to replace all the key holes and only have 1 key verses having two keys. So i decided to plug in the "Auto" ECU and started it up with my original key that i have not removed the immobilizer chip. And lone behold, the car fired right up but throwing a bunch of codes. I was able to bleed the coolant and make sure i had no leaks. I eventually had to get the car towed into Acura for them to charge me 80 dollars to re-program the key. But for some reason they could not get the door locks and sync up. I told them i would look into as the tech who they had look at my car seems to have no idea smh... So instead of paying them 100 dollars an hour to continue to troubleshoot it, i decided to just take the car home. Below is some pictures of how the car sits right now. I will go over again in a post of all the things needed and to look out for if anyone is interested in doing the swap. Sorry for writing such a big story update but hopefully you all enjoy the pictures.

How the car sits currently with the new motor/trans. (Planning on buying hew headlights and re-painting the front bumper)

Found some decent deals on some new seat covers so i pulled the trigger and bought some as my stock seats were shot to hell... These feel pretty nice.

Here is a shot of the interior. Having the new double din radio is pretty nice considering its like having a tablet in your car. And for those who are considering the "K-TUNED" shifter box, i would not hesitate. This has to be one of the nicest shifters i felt by far. I am in loved with it lol.

TIEN Flex Z's installed, so far so good on the ride quality. I might need to adjust the dampering.

A shot of the J-PIPE installed.

The seat memory does not work... smh which I was expecting as i know you have to be in "Parked" for the auto to allow it to work. I have not looked into this much yet but to be honest, since I am the only driver to this car, this would not bother me much.
