Well i just bought the FSB with bushings. $97 total shipped. I have to drop my subframe AGAIN! since I f*ed up my tranny install forgetting the pilot bearing.

As for the harder steering, I actually dont like how hard it was on the TypeS. Mine does not feel loose at all. For me, all i need is the front sway bar as steering doesn't feel "safe" as higher speeds. I will probably end up doing the PS Pump since its only $100. i'd like to see if there is actual change that you can feel above 3250.. this will be next spring tho as winter is around the corner and car is about to get garaged..

^you may need to buy the type-s endlinks as well. I had to because the '04 stock endlinks are 10mm (pretty sure), and the type-s bar is 12mm (again not positive). Also when changing to the type-s frt bar/endlinks you have to open up the connection point to the LCA to fit the larger endlink of the type-s. Hope that helps, and correct me (anyone) if I am incorrect.

Just verified everything you said and yup. 12mm VS 10mm.
Thanks for the heads up. New endlinks on the way as well.

i just measured the holes on the type S FSB and it measured 13mm to fit the 12mm Endlinks... Can anyone with the base FSB measure it.. Did everybody that did this keep the base 10mm end links (if you didn't buy a complete rack and pinion that came with the type s links).. Wouldn't you have play no matter how tight you tighten that nut? its should only be 2mm.. Is that even enough to do harm?

^I had the original endlinks for almost a yr! Didnt notice a lot of play, but am sure it was there. Until I stumbled onto a thread pointing out that the H&R front bar that IHC has is the same as the '04-'06 base, (10mm)and a member on here had ordered one for his type-s and was questioning the fitment.
I am talking only about the swaybar. I have not done the rack swap.

Hit the Thanks button! Lol!

I would order the larger endlinks for the larger holes in the Type S swaybar. The chances of getting clunks over time are greater with the smaller endlinks in the larger hole. If you retain the smaller endlinks, use blue loctite on the threads at the minimum. You'll still get a little additional flex from the threaded part. I had some work done at the dealer and they didn't tighten one side all the way. I got a clunk from under the car anytime I hit a small bump. By the time I diagnosed it, I needed a new endlink and had to put the bar in the firm hole since the soft hole was worn out from being loose.

Update!

So I completed my install with a refurb rack off ebay along with an alignment. Rack came with 3 year warranty/unlimited mileage (which I definitely need). Everything is stock in my car - and 4 months ago I replaced 95% of the front suspension to chase this uneasy/uncontrolled feeling on the car at 60+mph - with no success.

I can now say I feel I wasted a lot of time and money doing the suspension (with all stock Honda parts mind you) - this steering rack definitely fixed my problem. This car drives down the road very straight...and very confident now....even over expansion joints/dips/bumps on the freeway at 80mph. It is the car I use to know and love...back again.

I also had a odd clunk in my suspension since about 50k going over speed bumps....even after the new suspension...still there. Since I replaced the rack... noise gone.

Also, do a rack adjustment (its in service manual) - this tightens up the rack and makes it feel much more confident...and really doesn't make the steering much harder to turn.

I took pictures of my steering rack replacement....I'll post a DIY if there is interest...

Hey guys wanted to ask, I have a base 07 TL and wanted to do this swap over on the TL type S steering wheel because of the paddle shifters. Do you guys know if this is just a plug and play or do I need to connect other wires to get the paddle shifters to work? Any help would be appreciated thank you

OEM part numbers -
R - 51320-SEP-A01
L - 51321-SEP-A01
4 NUTS - 94050-12080 ( Dont know if the endlinks comes with the nuts)
Delray Acura has the whole set for like 30 shipped or something like that.

Rockauto has aftermarket ones too. remember, your going to have to drill out the hole on the lca to fit the new 12mm. shouldn't be that hard.

^Those endlinks DO NOT come with the nuts! Also, I didn't know they had a kit. I learned the hard way, and had to reorder the nuts.......for some reason I figured they would come with the new endlinks..?

That uneasy feeling with driving 60+, did you especially feel it on curves/cloverleafs as well as when there was a high crosswind? My steering also gives me an uneasy feeling and that's when I experience it the most. Still hoping to find a solution to it. The dealership says it's because of the Camber kit they put on the rear of the car (not believing that).

My new rack and pinion will be here tomorrow, I can't wait to see how it works. I wonder if there is a better steering fluid I should have put in...

Another Rack Pinion failure here. I sold my 2008 TL Type S 2 months ago (Jan 27, 2014) with 150K miles on it, was very reliable and never an issue. I replaced it with another Acura 2007 TL type S with 44K miles (Jan 31, 2014). I now have 48K miles on this car since purchase and its leaking powersteering fluid down at the bottom close to the passenger inner tie rod. The recall was completed for the O ring. Well the current quote from Acura is around $2400 to replace it and $800 from Firestone to replace it with Cardone parts. Firestone won't let me bring in Acura parts for the repair. I am having the local Acura dealer attempt to open a goodwill case with Acura Corporate since this car just passed the 4 year/50K miles warranty. The car has a clean carfax. What is the consensus here with using Cardone manufactured rack/pinion on the Type S? I will let you guys know how the Goodwill attempt turns out as a loyal Acura owner. I am ticked off with this part failure at 48K. Did not buy the warranty as the 2008 TL Type S never leaked or had any issues. Your thoughts on Cardone parts? I drive long highway miles for work so I put alot of miles on my car driving from state to state.

if the aftermarket parts match or exceed OEM ratings and is cheaper, why not?

and the 07 is just getting back at you for selling the 08.

You can. Just remember all you're going to get with the Type S rack and pinion and pump is a harder to turn steering wheel. No performance advantage.

What's wrong with the current rack?

What type of warranty is Firestone giving you on the work. If it is decent and the parts meet or exceed Spec, I would say go with it. Another option is either Honda or an independent Honda/Acura specialist.

On Wednesday, I will see what my local Acura dealership can do with a goodwill case. Firestone stated that the rack pinion manufactured by Cardone will come with a lifetime guarantee as long as I own the car. Which means the part will be free but I pay the labor if it fails again. If I go the Firestone route, I will be sure to get that warranty in writing. Another local shop wanted $1275 to do the work using Acura parts.

Good Luck with Acura, I am going through the same thing with my 2008 Type S. Power Steering assist failed 3 months after the Certified Pre-owned warranty expired for time (not mileage). They tell me the steering rack in the car is aftermarket (a car bought from Acura in October 2012 with 24,000 miles on it and only had 2 non Dealership owners of which I am one.) I am now trying to get an independent inspection to verify whether the part is in fact aftermarket.

With that said, does anyone have any pics of a Genuine Acura power steering rack for a 2008 TL Type S?

So after being a loyal Acura for two consecutive ownership, Acura corp would not help me. The dealership was very surprised about the 100% decline decision because the car had so little miles and clean carfax. Dealership said they usually cover 50% and even 24% cost. Acura corp declined because of three reasons. One the car was never serviced at an Acura dealership, Two I did not buy the car from an Acura dealership and the 3rd reason for the decline by Acura Corp was that the car was too old (2007), even though the miles on it is 48K . Wow, what a vote of confidence in their product with this rationale. I flew out to Indianapolis to buy this car from a Ford dealership.

I am unhappy about how unappreciative the rep at Acura Corporation was with me because I don't think those reps cared about my brand loyality. The rep sounded very robotic and scriptive. The Acura dealership on the other hand was super nice to me. They waived the inspection fee. They even cleaned my car inside and washed it. I would buy a car from this dealership, but not an Acura

I ended up having Firestone do the repair ($895) and three months later the car runs fine .

While I do most of my minor repairs with Acura parts and thanks to Acurazine , I started to log all my repairs on MyAcura.com, so Acura does not screw the next owner by stating no repair history is on file. This will be my last Acura ownership, since I did not feel appreciated with the call. Hope others have better luck with goodwill case with Acura.
