Z525a Bluetooth Problem

Has anyone successfully paired a Sony Ericsson Z525a? The phone SEEMS to pair OK, the phone info shows up on the car's display, and I can place calls using voice command. But the call itself won't transfer from the phone to the car's speakers.

I have the same exact annoying problem with my Z525a. I got it to work once when I first paired it, then never again since. Spent HOURS trying to recreate the magic...with no success. Spent an hour on the phone with an Acura Handsfree Link support rep...with no success. At least I felt vindicated. He was so sure I was doing something wrong. Then I sent an email to Sony support and received the following response:
Sony Ericsson has identified an incompatibility between certain SEMC handsets and the Johnson Control Bluetooth module used in integrated Bluetooth car kits installed in Acura, Honda, Audi, Chrysler and BMW vehicles. The incompatibility is manifested by the lack of audio through the car kit speakers on outbound calls subsequent to the first outbound call.

In many cases, if the involved handset is power cycled, at least one outbound call can be made before the issue is manifested again.

The Sony Ericsson handsets affected are the W600i Z520a and Z525a. A maintenance release of software to address this incompatibility will be available at a later date for the Z525a. No maintenance releases to correct this incompatibility are planned for the W600i or Z520a.

So hopefully help is on the way. I'll post again once I hear the maintenance release is available.

Still do not have a date when it will be released

I just checked with Sony Ericsson support on the status of the maintenance release of software they're working on to fix this problem. And their resposne was..."we currently still do not have a date when it will be released".

If you are also experiencing this problem, please send an email to Sony Ericsoon support (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...=ph1_2&zone=ph) and express your disappointment and disatisfaction with their responsiveness in providing us a fix for this problem. Hopefully, we can bump up the priority of this new software release by hitting them with emails from as many unsatisfied customers as possible.

I purchased a Z525a yesterday from Cingular. I paired it properly, then had some problems with the sound coming through the speakers in my '04TL. Since I was doing it late last night, I gave up trying to fix it. When I got in the car this morning, everyone paired up successfully and I was able to make a call and I was able to receive a call....but I did not try to make more than 1 call.

I'll try it again later today (make more than 1 call) and see what happens...but this is very disappointing if it doesn't work. I'll keep you posted.

I ran into more problems when I tried to use the Z525a with the TL's bluetooth later in the day. I could not get any sound through the car speakers.
I returned it to the Cingular store and got the Motorola Razr. The Razr paired up without a problem and worked fine with some test calls. BUT overall-- I prefer the functionality/feel of the Z525a over the Razr.....I hope SonyEricsson corrects the problem soon.

Thanks for the info on this thread. I have the Z525a, ran into the same problem, and sent email to Ericsson support. They sent the following response:

"Regarding your E-mail in reference to the Z525a, Sony Ericsson is currently working on this issue and should be releasing an Update Service to resolve this problem in the near future. I would advise you to check our website at www.sonyericsson.com for any future updates."

I called them and found out that you need to install their Update Service program on your PC in order to get the latest Z525a updates. However, the support person could not tell me when the fix will be released or how I would even know if the latest update contains the fix. I wasn't even sure that she knew if the fix wasn't already in the latest updates.

Has anyone tried downloading the latest updates to see if the fix is there (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...21839&esi=true)? To download from the PC to the phone, you also need a DCU-60 USB cable, which I'm not ready to purchase before knowing whether or not I will get the fix. But maybe someone has already tried this.

I heard back from Sony Ericsson support:

"Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

In regards to the email that you had sent us, as of right now we have not received any additional information in regards to the maintenance release. I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer of your car to see if they have any additional information since they are the people that we get the information from.

If you require more information, or have any other questions, please visit our website at http://www.sonyericsson.com or call us at 1-866-766-9374.

Best regards,

Guys, I got it to work! The Update Service program from the Sony Ericsson site does indeed download the needed fix! The support people don't even know the fix is already there!

You need to get a USB cable from Cingular (or your Sony Ericsson supplier) and download the Update Service software from: "http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=us&lc=en&ver=4000&template=ps1_1_3_1_1& zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10439&fid=21839&esi=true".

I installed the software, ran it, and followed the instructions for connecting up the phone to the PC (which is a little tricky). Then I tried making a call through my TL and I could hear the call from the car's speakers. The sound is not as crystal clear as I'd like. But it works!

Please advise if your phone continues to work. I was able to make 1 successful call at first...then the next day it did not work (after repeated tries). I hope it works!!

thank you for the feedback.

It still works. I tried a couple of calls today and the speakers kicked in for both. But the sound quality is definitely mediocre or worse. I may have to try another phone, like the Motorola Razr, just to see if it makes a difference.

that's unfortunate.
I have been using the Razr for 1 week and I have not had 1 problem with the phone or call quality with Bluetooth. I still prefer the SE, but it looks like I'll stick with the Razr.....I do alot of driving and I plan on using the Bluetooth alot.

Yes, the Razr has been working very well in my TL.
Signal strength is VERY good and the clarity of the phone calls is fine/acceptable.
Overall, I don't love the Razr as a phone, but it works very well with the Bluetooth in my TL (which is the main reason why I get a new phone).

I was able to test the bluetooth for the Motorola SLVR with my TL today. The Cingular salesguy said it should be similar to the RAZR. The sound quality was better than the z525a, but the difference was not night and day. At this point, I will probably stick with the z525a, now that it's working. ExpensiveWino, you may want to stick with the Razr, since it's working for you.
