XM Radio Display

Right before I lost my free 3 month XM trail, XM dash would first display the Artists name then Title of the song each for 15 seconds back and forth. I thought that was cool because if you like the song you could easily catch who you are listening to then go home and download it on your pc. When I got the subscription it stopped. It will display the artists name then title, lastly displays what ch I'm listening to. Is everyone else's XM dash doing the same? I want it the way they use to display the artist and title.

There should be a button of "disp mode" next to XM button. Try to press that one while listening to your XM and see what you have...

Has anyone figured out what that "DISP MODE' button is for? The dealer has no clue.

It changes the display above the Navi, where your environment info and clock are.

:sqnteek: If you would crack open that thing called "Owner's Manual", you'll find a very clear explanation of the button's function.

Why can't the song/artist names scroll? It seems like engineers should have realized that most song titles may be longer than the available display.

They display the same on the NAVI audio screen as they do on the other displays(still chopped off). It just seems odd.......

The limitation in the artist/song names is XM's problem, not the TL. That's all the info they include. I've heard rumors of changes to that which will include longer strings for artist/title as well as more song information (album, year, etc). Wonder if the TLs display will be conpatible with any format changes they make to the song information?

With that said, what I would really like to see with XM is some sort of way to easily store the song information for a tune I hear on XM so that I can remember what things I was interested in possibly purchasing. I hear so much new stuff on XM, but I tend to forget about the individual songs so I get no chance to investigate them further.

If they really wanted to get clever, XM could even get into selling the music for the artists they play. Whether it's from the radio itself which would require 2 way communication, or from their website, it would be kinda cool.

Marquis: I had a sony XM head unit in my Accord and it had a "save" function that would snapshot the display so you could write it down at home. It would be a great feature. I have found that I am downloading and buying a lot more music now that you get the artist and title. It's a great benefit.

In my TL I just keep a little spiral bound pad in the top of the armwrest and I write down songs while they play. I don't look at it to make sure i'm writing clearly, I just scribble and then worry about it at home.

The original poster claimed that at one time his XM display would automatically alternate between title and artist. Can our display really do that? If so, I haven't figured out how. I have Navi - does that make a difference?

(I know I can display all the info at once on the Navi screen, but I like to keep the map on screen and would love it if the little display above could automatically alternate between title and artist throughout each song. I just don't think it's programmed for that option.)

It DOES alternate between title and artist but only as the song first plays. After the first cycle of title/artist, it will only display one.

Right, but that's not what the original poster described.

XM Display problem

It doesnt seem like my XM display is working right.

When a song first starts, it displays Artist and song and then goes to "XM ANTENNA" on the display and stays like that. No channel, artist or song info. I pushed the "Disp. Mode" button and that doesnt do anything. I have the non-navi system.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is. The dealer couldn't explain why it is doing that.

My display will alternate between artist and title when the song comes on. It will then return to whatever you default it to using the "DISP MODE" button that rets described--i.e., if you use that button to set it to display the title, when a new song begins it will display the artist briefly, then go back to the title and stay there. You can also have it show the channel number or the genre.

For Navi users, if you don't see the artist name come up, perhaps because you're watching the traffic, you can hit the "AUDIO" button below the Navi screen to get both the artist and title at the same time.

The Delphi SkyFi (an aftermarket XM tuner) has this capability for up to ten tracks at a time--you hit the "Memo" button and it saves the artist's name and title. Doesn't help us a whole lot; perhaps you could keep a microcassette recorder in the car (the type attorneys use to dictate letters and such) and grab it when you want to save this kind of info? It's probably easier than writing it down.

You have a problem with your antenna. Either the connection with the antenna wire and the tuner is loose. (Ie: unplug the antenna and replug it in). The antenna wire could be split someplace and lastly the actual antenna could be bad. On both Sirius and XM aftermarket tuners (I have both) when there is a problem with the antenna, you get a meessage on the display that says antenna. That "feature" is in the chipset for all of the tuners. My advice to you is have your dealer first check the antenna connection with the tuner, if you still get the that message after they check the connection by unplugging it and replugging it back in to the tuner, have your dealer replace the antenna.

as the original poster stated, mine did the same switching between station, artist, song... then i discovered the display button and it doesnt do that anymore, so i leave it on artist and like said it shows the title right at the beginning... im thinking one of the other settings (station?) might scroll but dont really care for all that info enough to have checked yet

You were right. I finally got it back to the dealer. The service rep. looked at me a little condescendingly when I mentioned I had heard it was something with the antenna connection, but when they called to tell me it was fixed they said it was a "pinched wire".

Thanks!
