XM Radio as business model
XM Radio as business model
I tried calling XM a couple of times to see if I could get the half price, $60 subscription. I was told by the operators, after checking with their "supervisor" that the promotion is only for people whose subscription has expired. Since I'm only a month into my three month free trial, I can not be included. I told the operators that my best bet was to let my subscription expire and then wait for them to come to me? They told me this promotion will expire on August 31 and they don't know if it will be repeated. So I asked them again if the idea is to encourage customers to let their subscription expire and then try to win them back.............maybe if they decide to extend the half off offer? They said yep, that's our marketing strategy. Well good luck with that business strategy.
Just keep calling back until you get with someone that will give you the offer. I had no problem signing up earlier today, even though they're no longer listed the $60 for one year promotion, and considering that my trial period doesn't expire until October. Others have had no problem either, although more and more are starting to have the same troubles you did.
At this point (and probably continuing to the 31st, when the promotion was originally supposed to expire), I think it's all a matter of which customer service representative you get. Keep calling back, and you'll eventually get a good one... or at least, one that doesn't yet know that he/she is supposed to give you the run-around.

XM Radio is commercial-free and the closest thing to God on Earth next to 303 Aerospace Protectant and the Motorola v710.
XM isn't doing that well financially, so cut them a break and pay full price. Keep it commercial-free and pay the friggin' extra $2 a month. What's that? One cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee? You drive a $35,000 luxury car; act like it.

More like..
Actually it's more like an extra $5 month. Plus, why would I want to pay for a year or two of service at full price, when they may go under due to their poor financial condition and customer management?
I had no problems. I just got my car a week ago, activated the XM radio and on the same call took advantage of the promotion, so I get 3 months free during my trail, then the promotion kicks in after that.
