Is the XM live traffic worth it?

Three Wheelin'
I wasn't willing to pay for XM Live Traffic so I just use my iPhone to tell me what the conditions are. And I know what you mean man, LA traffic is hell. For the most part, I just try to avoid the rush hours and I'm usually good.

I like it, but I'm in Kansas City, not Los Angeles. It helps me.

If I lived in LA or any large city, yes it is worth it.

dude i live in LA, and no i dont think its worth it. i have lived here for over 14 years so i already know approximately what time traffic starts and stops at each freeway. i currently have the live traffic to try it out but its mediocre at best. lately theres been a lot of construction on the 10 west at night, and it never shows up on the livetraffic, also, i would say only about 60-70% of the accidents/constructions show up. also, sometimes even if you know the traffic, it doesnt matter because there is no other freeway to take so its pointless.
thats just my experience.

IMO Opinion no it's not. Your paying for something that you can get for free from 1010 WINS or any traffic station. When I first purchsed the car. It has a trial period. I tried it and still got stuck in traffic and by the time the system informed me I was already sitting there. Too slow for my tastes.
I had a loaner 2010 TL with the traffic feature and again useless not worth the money.

With you being in LA (or any area that is covered), I would say yes. I had it in my 2009 Maxima and it helped when I drove from KY to OK.
However, I am really interested in the FM Traffic that Honda offers now. They cover more area and seems to be cheaper.

In and around Los Angeles, sigalert.com gives the same traffic info that XM Live would give.
My '05 TL doesn't have XM Live available, so I listen to 1070 AM and XM Traffic for traffic as I drive.
Our portable Garmin navigation unit has live traffic(based on the same CalTrans sensors), but I haven't used it in local traffic enough to notice any advantages over regular XM Traffic + news radio.

Make a hole, coming thru!
Considering that Google maps now shows traffic indicators (relatively accurately, though I don't know the data source), and Waze specializes in user-contributed reports (jam, stalled cars, law enforcement, etc.), I would think that the monthly subscription to XM's traffic info is a 1999 solution for a 2012 problem ... and there are plenty of 2012 solutions out there for free with the right phone.
XM/Sirius is becoming a dinosaur ... I wish they'd adopt Pandora's model, just let me have some basic channels for free with ads, maybe with higher compression, or let me pay a yearly fee (REASONABLE yearly fee) for the high quality stuff and no ads.

If you spend a lot of time on the freeway, then get it. It has saved me many times from an accident area that I was able to avoid. The only problem is sometimes it is a little behind in updates. The color coding enables me to pick a route ahead of time with the least congestion. Just remember when you turn off the key, all is erased. This sucks when you are filling up near the onramp.

how much is a traffic subscription? You can get a Garmin with free traffic for something around $140. I actually use my garmin more than my TL's navi.
