They don't need the KEY, they need the immobilizer chip in it. Typically they'd cut off the key and use the handle with the chip inside to work with the immobilizer bypass unit.
When installed correctly, the bypass unit only activates when you remote start it.

doesnt the can-sl just duplicate what the immobilizer does...self-learning? the only advantage here, is you wouldnt be able to rip the spare key out and start the car.

I've been through their web site a few times and could not find a single mention of an IMOBILIZER. It looks to me like the CAN SL only converts the CAN bus signals to few discrete signals such as tachometer pulses and hood and door pin-switches etc.

Look here: http://www.canbuskit.com/why.php

Common Features - The CAN SL bypass kit offers the following features that are included with most standard (non-CAN) data bypass kits:

* OEM Alarm Disarm/Rearm - Disarm/Rearm the factory anti-theft system. (-) Input.
* Door Locks - Lock/Unlock all of the doors. (-) Input.
* Trunk/Hatch Release - Release the trunk/hatch. (-) Input

I have not used this device but I have read their Web pages and there is no mention of an imobilizer. It says "anti-theft" which probably means the alarm system (door and hood pins) which are a separate system from the imobilizer.

If you could bypass imobilizers so easily with a simple unit like that, thieves would be using them to steal our cars.

Don't be so quick to dismiss this as either easy to do or impossible to accomplish. There are several products available to help.
While the CAN-SL does NOT perform the immobilizer bypass, another CANBUS product does, the Honda SL2 or SL3
I have no loyalty to any site, but this was a quick find...

http://support.fortinautoradio.com/f...chnologiesinc/

http://www.bypasskit.com/product.aspx?prodid=XK01#
with HODL4 programming.

For these to work they have to be wired into a remote starter, they are not stand aloone units. Plus the proximity must be close, based on the RF system.

Thanks for the links. You may be right. One of the links mentions an NKR No Key Required but are these compatible with the TL ? I find the product descriptions leave a lot to be desired.

These do say NKR, but they require a key in the ignition to program them. It is based on the RFID frequencies in the keys themselves. Once learned, they are good to go.

Another product which I am working with right now is the DEI 555h/556h immobilzer bypasses. The 555's have a history of being 'spotty' in whether they work or not (mine didn't) but the 556's are supposed to be good. My 556 should be here today and I'll work on it and let you know.

Okay, Last night I installed the 556h immobilizer bypass mentioned above and it works like a champ. I now have full control of the remote starter.
