My Samsung Instinct

Wow. What a great phone! For $129.00 it is a bargain I just could not pass up. It does everything an iPhone does, but faster.

It comes with:

- a pouch (a cheap one that you won't use but...)
- earbuds (pretty nice ones too)
- an extra battery
- a battery charger (not just the one to charge the phone, but another one to charge you extra battery too)

The GPS on this phone is great. I used it to go to the bank and it gave better directions then the Navi in my car

The Web browser is awesome. I particularly like the Movie button where it shows you the movie listing where you are, times and descriptions of movies. and gives you the option to navigate to the selected theatre.

The TV mode is pretty good too, but I don't foresee using this feature much.

There are other little cool things I like about this phone, like the little "shock" that you get everytime you press a button on the phone. It makes it feel like you are actually pressing a button.

I can't believe a phone this great is so inexpensive. I think Sprint wants it's customers back. I don't know if this will do the trick but it is a step in the right direction. Especially with the 3G iPhone on it's tail.

I could go on, but I'll just end with, if you are looking for a new phone and you are on the Sprint network this phone should be on your short list.

Thats a bit of a stretch. Every review I've read has stated that the browser is useless. The arbitrary zoom on the browser (1/2x, 1x, 2x) would be a deal breaker for me.

Seems like a very nice phone, just not really a full smartphone

Not compatible with Macs either apparently.

I could see that, but hell it's only $129 and the browser is still a good interface.

It is capatible with Exchange and Lotus Notes. I think it is a real smartphone.

Oh and not trying to rain on your parade knight rider. Its a great phone, and I'd have one if I had Sprint. I'd just disagree that it is better than an iPhone.

Hey Knight, my lil brother has one. Like all comparisons, it does some things better than Iphone and some things it doesnt. I particularly didnt like the browser compared to the iphone, or skyfire on my Touch, but for the price of the phone, it has the best features and best dollar value than any other phone sprint has. Once there is a working version of opera mini for it, then it would be hard for anyone to not love the phone. It has 3G Rev.A(Although my Touch Rev A was much faster). It has full turn by turn navigation, TV, over the air music download.....etc. It's not my cup of tea as i am a Windows Mobile guy, and i was dissapointed in the browser big time, but i guess if you are looking for an iphone substitute and you are on Sprint, then this is the phone to get.

My boss at work got one, but claims he is getting crappy signal with it even though he had sprint/nextel for his last phone.
Personally, I don't need much in a phone, but it's cool how much they can pack into them these days.

yeah, no one needs this stuff that's true but once you have it it sure comes in handy.

You'll pay about $2000 for the navi option (something else you don't really need) in a car and here you have one in a phone that costs less than 10% less than that and it's still a phone, a camara, a web browser and an email client amoung other things.

LOL you love your new toy dont you? Give it a week for the newness to wear off, and for the quirks to be exposed, and get back to us with an honest review. I felt the same way about my Iphone when i first got it, and about a week later i was going nuts without copy/paste and flash.

i'm really gonna have to look at this phone in person at a sprint store since best buys don't seem to have display models that are turned on anymore.

That's a bummer... the only way to maximize my time is to have both running at the same time... I wonder why not? I quess I will have to check out the HTC touch / diamond phones... my wife and I talk and text back and forth all the time... at the same time

Dark - you email while talking? With your BT bud in your ear or what? I can't imagine why anyone would need to be able to talk and text/email at the same time... God forbid you do that while driving!

I'm a new Instinct owner and I love my phone. I got it the day it came out and although the honeymoon period is over, I still think it's a great functioning phone that serves all the needs that I have and then some. It's very user friendly, slim in my pocket and has much better reception/clearer calls than my old Samsung flip phone.

Not only did I get to have the phone on the day it came out, but it earned me the front cover of the Kansas City Star newspaper last Saturday!

For a daily user this phone is perfect. Power-business-users won't find the phone to be suited to their needs, but then again it wasn't designed for them. It was designed for people who want to be able to use the phone for its main function - calling - and to be able to text, surf the web and enjoy their phone. If you're looking for a business phone, pick up a Palm or Blackberry and don't try to sell the Instinct as being a sub-par phone, because it's not created to compete with BB's and Palms, it's designed for the average user who wants a cool phone.

For me, Sprint hit it out of the park with this one. Everyone is going to have different opinions, but you can take mine for what's it worth...

I know that the phone's MSRP is $449 with a $220 instant rebate and a $100 mail in rebate. So if I have the $150 credit coming to me (as a current Sprint customer) why can't I get the phone for $449-$220-$150=$79?

The rep says the $150 rebate is inside the $220 instant, but new customers get this too and I don't see how that is fair. I understand that they want/need new customers, but shouldn't they try to take care of their current customers, especially one that is going on 10 years with them??

I saw the phone and it looks pretty good, but I've read reviews where Sprint/Samsung will need a firmware update to fix the "bugs."

FastInFairway....

I can talk (on my BT) and txt (not email) at the same time... never while driving...lol... I ride on all day in mobile medical clinic, so I have a technician who drives me around... ... as medical director for our busy practice, I have to be able to maximize my time between patients... and youre right, the palms and BB are the bread and butter for hard heads like me... I just wanted a cool phone too, like most peeps have nowadays.... ... I am still waiting...

...its kinda jacked up...I really think Sprint is more concerned with bringing new folks in...since they lost some market share over the past year or so...this new phone is part of that move...just IMVHO...

The $150 "rebate" or credit that a Sprint customer gets is the same as any cell company does... and they all do it for new customers. A lot of times companies won't do anything for existing customers, and in the past that's how cell companies were... they only gave the "bonus" to the new guy. It was only a few years ago that they started giving current customers the same treatment.

I could be wrong, but I think the MSRP on the phone is $429, and you get $200 off instantly and then the rest comes with the $100 mail-n-wait rebate.

Every place I go people still ask about the phone... so clearly people are interested. Not to mention it broke records for sales... for Sprint, that is. Which shouldn't be all the difficult to do!

When you bought the Instinct, had you considered or looked at the LG Venus? I know they are slightly different in that the Venus still has a numeric keypad slider for dialing. I come from the old school flip-phones and no touch capabilities. I'm wondering how people find using touch-only for things like dialing out (ever hit the wrong numbers? harder to do when not looking vs. raised buttons? etc).

The Venus and Instinct are the same price here....

Actually, I had not considered any other phone. It's one of those things for me that I don't actually care about until I see one I want. There are a ton of cool phones out there that serve the same purpose. I just happened to want the Instinct. As far as hitting the wrong numbers that shouldn't happen, as the number buttons are larger than on any normal phone and they pulsate when you touch them.

The only real issue that I've noticed between the Instinct and my old A900 is that I can't text without looking... not that I did that a ton anyway, but obviously with raised keys you know exactly where your fingers are. However, with the full keypad, it's pretty easy to type a full message as quickly, if not quicker than on the raised keys.
