Wouldn't it be nice if the NAV system had real internet access?

Wouldn't it be nice if the NAV system had real internet access?

Just a few thoughts about what I'd really like to see in the NAV system. Now that the 07-08 Nav systems can link up via a bluetooth data link to Acura via the internet, wouldn't it be nice if it could actually have a browser screen. With a browser you could get real-time traffic info (without paying XM). You could check email. You could use online radio (or video, if legal). If the GPS coordinates were made available to java, you could have google maps/earth showing you where you are/were. (Oops, then you wouldn't need the NAV system, would you?)

I was aware of the car PC work. I was suggesting that all the hardware is really already there if the NAV system software supported it.

Embedded hardware is usually hard to alter from it's intended use.

Adding a computer is much easier in the end.

GOD no! It's bad enough that people talk on handsets, text message and email while they drive. Not to mention those who apply makeup, shave, eat and, in general, don't keep their hands on the wheel.

The LAST thing we need is folks surfing the web while they drive.

God help us!

Maybe... IF the browser would only work with the engine off.

I'd like the Nav to update streets, gas stations, etc. without needing a DVD.
