Would this work with aftermarket navi?

I was looking into getting an aftermarket navi for the moment until I get all the components to install an OEM navi system. But the one thing I dont like much about aftermarket units is that it has to be mounted on the top of the dash or on the windshield which to me looks kinda wack. I saw this item on ebay and wondered if the aftermarket navis had to be mounted on the dash or on the window. If not I figured I could buy this item and have the navi somehow sit on this product. Do you think it'll work or will it not get the signal it needs from being mounted so low? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It all depend on the GPS Receiver you will be using.

I bought a GlobalSat BT338 Bluetooth unit that I used with my PocketPC Phone.

The PocketPC Phone is secured in the Kuda Holder and the GPS Receiver is so sensitive, I can leave it in the globe box in the dash. The receiver is very small, wireless, and operates up to 15 hours on a rechargeable battery.

I personally find that the OE Nav system in the Acura really lacks coverages in my area (Eastern Canada) having almost nothing out of the major cities and is too expensive for my use.

My Nav Solution is portable so I always take it with me when I fly across my territory and rent cars and the software upgrades are $50 US per year as oppossed to over $150 for Acura's.

Best regards from Montreal

It is hard to say if your friend's unit would work and please note that Tom Tom offer different models. Also note that they do offer external Antenna's as an option. with the External antenna, you could install it in tthe Kudha Holder and have the antenna on the dash.

The other alternative would be a windshield mount holder (Suction Cup style) which would work also without an external antenna. earch for Arkon for this type of holder.

Best regards

If you have a Laptop PC, you could use the Garmin shown below.

I've had it for more than a year. It works great and only costs $129.
