Wiring Instructions for Subwoofer?

I have a 2006 Acura TL and I have a 10 inch subwoofer I was hoping to install in addition to the stock 8 inch sub that came with the car. I was hoping to get information on how to wire the amplifier and whether or not I would need a RCA splitter etc.
Any information or suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks!

you can do it 2 ways. either hook up your aftermarket amp to the factory amp via High LEvel input....
OR hook the amp up to the stock subwoofer wiring via Line Out Converter

Is the amp for the factory sub built into the head unit, or is there an external amp (and is it in the dash, or back near the sub)? Just wondering if you could grab the line level output somewhere along the way. I'm planning to move my subs over soon, so this will be useful info to me too.

So I don't know a whole lot about high level input stuff. Would one of those ways be easier? If I were to hook the aftermarket sub amp to the stock subwoofer wiring would there be a spare wiring connection for the LOC?

you can actually grab the wires from the amp to the sub right near the oem sub at the rear deck and add a LOC there. then run the LOC to your new amp and then to you sub. i highly recommend if you add a sub in the trunk that you remove the oem sub completely to allow some sound through that port and sound deaden the rear deck to eliminate any potential rattles.

that's the easiest route. you'll need to buy a simple cheap LOC. $9-15
depending on which LOC you buy, there will be about 5 wires. 2 positive, 2 negative and RCA out.

take out stock sub.
find stock sub Positive wire. crimp or twist the LOC positive to the positive
find stock sub negative wire. crimp or twist the LOC negative to negative.

connect amp via RCA to LOC RCA

Thanks for the info guys... it's been a while since I messed w/ car stereo stuff (I installed my last system about 15 years ago in my S-10... I'd like to move my subs from that to the TL). I thought I remembered LOCs being frowned upon though... mostly for people that are too lazy/cheap to run RCAs from the head unit back to the subs, or for people too broke to replace their factory head unit.

Though actually, IIRC my amp can take line or high level input (JL 500/1)... so that does sound like the easiest way.

You're a life saver
One last question: Would the LOC be plugged into the high level input in the aftermarket amp or the low level input? (I'm assuming high level?)

Low level (RCA). The whole purpose of the LOC is to convert the high/speaker level to a standard RCA/low level signal so you can use the proper inputs on your amplifier. Speaker level inputs should be used only as a last option especially if your are going to run component speakers...
