wiring diagram for steering wheel buttons
Can anyone direct me to a diagram showing the harness that carries this wiring? I have been looking through the TL service manual, but haven't found it, yet.
Ultimately, my plan is to tap the wire carrying the signal from the buttons and interface it to my car computer- allowing me to change track or switch to GPS/music/video from the steering whell buttons.

EE, huh? Cool, perhaps you can help me here as well.
I met a guy the other day that's going to put an oscilloscope on the bus data lines for me to see what's going on in there. I've got wires tapped into it, I just need to catch up with him.
The steering wheel buttons will probably come along after this as I suspect they are much easier- the setup is just like a joystick where there is a different sized resistor for each button. If you know the total voltage coming from the line, you know what button was pressed...

Oscilloscope on data lines will not help you much. This kind of reverse engineering is quite complicated.
I can help you with more info on the steering wheel buttons:

gt1 is correct, it is complicated. I was thinking more along the lines of using the nav screen for output and input. Adding a switch from a pc to send display info to the screen and receive info from the touchscreen. ITL, what u suggest is still doable, but will take time. Maybe I can help cut down some of the time.

After reading the thread ( http://mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=71211) u need to connect a scope to those lines and maybe a logic analyzer, to see what the signals are when buttons are pressed. Then maybe you will be able to emulate data on that bus
