Does this only work in the cities where XM does it traffic update channels? I notice that they only have traffic channels for a few major cities.

An XM rep told me that all we have to do is subscribe. I think it is $3.95 a month, or something like that, in addition to the regular XM rate.

I don't think that is true. If it was a lot of us would have it already.

Ever notice that most of the time when you call XM customer service, you get India?

You have to subscribe if you have a navigation system that is capable of interpreting the data. The RL's system does. However I was asking if this works using the XM traffic channels. If so it would seem that it would only be useful for people in the major cities that XM serves.

Not really, everyone that I talked to seemed to be from the good old USA. However, I am sure that they are not always the brightest bulb in the bunch if that’s what you’re getting at.

I did restate my question a couple of times to different reps about traffic updates with the TL and got the same “Yes” answers. Having said all that I’m still not convinced that they knew the difference between the TL & RL.

Subscribe, tell us if it works, if it doesnt, cancel and demand your money back.

Selling point for the RL, they are also getting a benz style presafe system for 06(uses radar and hits breaks if your about to fuck up)

so the navigation will accept the xm signals to decide the best route,& all we need todo is subscribe to the service? I would think that the nav system would have to be configured for this.... I am going to call XM today and see what they say. I will post with my results.

I am sure there is at the very least a software update required as there are seperate settings for the traffic system. As far as hardware the Navi Computer is connected to the radio module which is in turn connected to the XM module.

It's because the RL has an entirely different navi system. THe hardware is different, and newer than the TL's hardware.

i called xm, and they will provide the signal to the car for the traffic reporting. altough i suspect that you are right and that a software update or hidden feature would need to be enabledfor the system to work.

i am going to order it tomorrow and see if it works, i wonder if it will be included in the new navi update? It appears to be a major revision.

The next version 3.50 will be available at the end of October 2005.
We are not accepting pre-orders at this time. Please check this website towards the end of the month for availability of the 3.50

I think major revisions are only number changes before the decimal, but I am not positive.

yeah, it looks like your right on that one. i wonder if adding that feature would be considered "major" or would be part of the yearly updates? i guess we will just have to wait and see.

Can the Pioneer GEX-P10XMT XM/NAVITRAFFIC unit some way be intergrated into the TL s' Naviagtional system? Has anyone atempted this yet? If it could be then a subscription would be all you need to activate the unit? Not sure who the manufacture is of the TL's Navigation unit is?

There would have to be a physical link between the Navigation and the XM radio. It isn't there, and it won't work. Don't try, you'll have a hell of a time getting XM to reimburse you for it not doing something that your system is unable to do; they'll say that your responsibility would be to know what your system could do and couldn't do, and if you don't live up to that responsibility it isn't their fault (not what I think, but that is what the XM folks will say after the fact), i.e. if you sign up for service and you can't receive it, the problem is on your end, not on theirs. The traffic update is something that is in the RL and not the TL, and it won't be until Acura decides to put it into a later version of the TL.

A software update won't ever give you this feature, the physical system would have to be different.

You'll just throw your money away. Don't bother.

Don't mean to inject politics here, but I wouldn't buy Dell 'anything'.
Michael Dell is a HUGE George W. Bush supporter and campaign contributor.
He gave a quarter of million $ for Bush's re-inauguration parties alone.

Most corporate CEOs are Bush/Republican party supporters. Theirs is the party of the rich and powerful. If you subscribed to that theory then you probably wouldn't buy very much.

I try to avoid buying from those companies who shipped American jobs off to places like India whenver possible. Difficult, but not always impossible. When it comes to beer, Coors is on my sh1t list as they're also a company run by right wing extremists.

I definitely agree with your position. I just wish it were easier to do. I used to work for Exxon and while I'm glad I no longer work for a money hungry, environmentally insensitive, oil company, I still have to buy gas and can't avoid them or their competitors.
