Whats Your Alarm System?

I wanted to get a remote start and Alarm this weekend so I just wanted to know which ones u guys had and how well u liked them.

I had a remote start on my car b4 but it was a cheap no-name brand. I also want ones that will KEEP all the features of our keyless entry remote i.e. windows and mem. seats. Plus I like tha silent door locks I hate to hit an alarm and hear that loud chirp.

P.S. Pics if possible

I installed the Viper 791XV myself, and I set it up to do the memory seat and mirror function. It's a great alarm/remote starter.

Wouldn't it just be easier to have your clifford have all of the same features as your OEM alarm system...if that's possible? (memory seats, auto-relock after time interval, roll all windows down, etc.). I too want to get an alarm system, but I would really prefer to just add a shock sensor to the OEM alarm.

I have the Clifford RSX 3.5. It's a good alarm , but if I could do it all over again i'd go with the Clifford G5 Intelliguard 750 (http://www.clifford.com/g5/sec/default.asp).

I believe the DEI makes most of the Viper and Clifford alarms systems, except for the G5 series which I believe is still made by Clifford in the UK. I think the G5 is import only, not all the alarm shops carry them. This maybe another option.

I'm currently running the Clifford G5 Intelliguard 750 with Intellistart. Works great. My installer also kept all the factory features active with the aftermarket system: ie Memory Seats/ Mirros, and the wondow up and down feature but i can now put my windows up fro the remote. All this was done without adding any special modules to the system.

I also have the Viper 5900, the 1 mile range is refering to the distance you can be from the car to start the remote start for the car and the transmitter will let you know if any of the sensors have been set off, this is a great alarm/remote start it is hooked up to my mirrors, mem seats highly recomend

I think that the Viper 5900 is what is in my 6 TL. I have all those features mentioned by Pennstate50, however the feature of starting the engine from the remote, I do not have. is that what they call "remote start"?

Clifford G5 Intelliguard 750 . Sounds very tempting, although they all do.

Yes Christina starting the engine from the remote is called remote start.

I think it is an omacron one. This thread is for aftermarket alarms. Standard one has memory seats, window roll down, un-lock/lockdoors and trunk only. No remote start or anything else.

Does anyone know if you can use the original acura key fob with the Clifford? Also, what would happen if you hit the "panic" button with the Clifford?

Csmeance, I'm confused about your post are you saying that the factory 06 tl alarm can roll down the windows? If it does I havent heard of the function or seen it do that feature before.

I believe that all the 3g's alarms do that. A coworker has an '04 and I an '07. Simply press and hold the open button and after a few seconds the windows will roll down and sunroof open. There is no way to close them from the remote though.

In reading my manual (yes, I read the entire thing the night I brought my car home) you CAN roll up/down the windows with the key in the door (holding it one way or another). I haven't tried that yet.. it's winter here in MD!

I would try it again now but it is snowing. How long do you have to hold down the unlock button to get them to roll down? I tried the key thing a while ago but had no luck. At the time I tried with the key I had no idea the windows did that, a friend has a mini cooper and his windows roll down with the key so I gave it a shot.

I just got home (and now my nice new TL has been salted to death from Baltimore County over-salting the roads for 1/2' of snow) but I have a garage and tested things.

To remotely open the windows/SR you have to hit the unlock twice, holding it the 2nd time.

To close them using the door key, turn the key left two times, holding the key the 2nd time and they'll close. Turn the key right the same way to open them.

Not sure how much pertains to years previous to '07.

Time for a car wash.

Rick

i open the trunk pass through when i leave so the rattlesnakes can get into the car. on my way back in, i drop a mouse or two back into the trunk, wait for them to pass through and close it. snakes in a car.

but on days when i run out of mice, the viper 791XV seems to be good to deal with - 4 years and running! all the DEI units pretty much function the same.

good luck

you get a lot of bells and whistles with these new alarms, and thats fine.....but i'm starting to learn from my research that there is little reference about compatibility for memory seats.

has anyone ever asked their dealer about this

The following commercial is being circulated via email but you may not have seen it. I would order it on a new TL if it was available.

I've always hated the VIPER fobs. I like Marksman. I had it on my previous car. Ihave no interest in changing the TL's alarm though.
http://www.magnadyne.com/ (The remote fob I have is much nicer than the ones they show, but from what I can see - looks like it was discontinued)

wow this is more like it...All the factory features plus an alarm with a 1 mile range on the way remote.

Anyone know if the Clifford Matrix 20.5x can do the same? I want a remote start on my 06 TL but scared of 2 things:

1) The dealer might bitch about the aftermarket alarm.
2) Might lose those factory functions

I wish you were local, I would so pay you to do this for me, I have the Clifford 3.5 installed, basically the same thing and all the installers here tell me I wont have the memory function encoded onto the key fob.

I also dont have the auto close sunroof, because they said they cant do it. I dont know I guess you get what you pay for.

You lucky 3GTL Bastidges!

I could care less about remote start (6spd), but I would love to have window/sunroof open/close feature on my CL. I've had that on my last two cars and let me tell you in Georgia and Florida heat it's very nice. I also want to retain my OEM armed "beep". Other'n that as long as it keeps the assholes out and the treasure in, I'm good.

So...maybe Clifford, maybe Viper, maybe an armed guard with armor piercing rounds and sniper scope.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I've been looking around and very difficult to find specific info. I want to install my 50.5x clifford remote start/alarm in my 06 TL but unsure of whether I can keep the factory options of seat memory and such. Is there any way to do this and only use the clifford remote and not the factory fob?

I have the Clifford 50.7X and it supports factory seat memory settings using the Clifford remote or OEM remote.

The spec sheet for the 50.5x should tell you what it supports per make/model of car.

Do you have to do anything special to get it to work with the mem. seats? I have the 50.5x matrix clifford alarm and I know that is very similar or maybe even identical to the Viper 791XV.

I can't find any compatability info on the 50.5x and 2006 Acura TL. With your 50.7x, did you have to do anything additional to retain the memory seats or did you just wire it up like any other remote start/alarm unit? How does the memory seat function know to detect your new alarm system and store the new remote transmitter from your 50.7x?

Because all of that stuff is controlled through the car's CANBUS, basically a network. The alarm interfaces with the CANBUS and controlls/sends signals through the CANBUS the same way the car brains do.
