Question What are your favorite DVD-A Discs???????

I've searched but could not find anything. Since people rave about the sound quality from our 5.1 system & DVD-A, what are the some of the best titles out there to purchase?? Thanks.

Apparently, you didn't look very hard because there are several threads about favorite DVD-A discs and tracks. Most of the music available on DVD-A are from the older catalogs and mainly from the classical, jazz and 70's/80's rock genre. Very few of the current artists are on DVD-A. On some of the DVD-A dics, the mixes for 5.1 are to be desired but others are really excellent. These discs can demonstrate what the ELS system is capable of reproducing musically.

You might shift your attention to DualDisc (CD on one side and DVD-A or DVD-V on the other) and again you'll have to look very closely at the DVD logos on the back side to determine what you're getting. This is another topic that has been of ongoing discussion thanks to Sony/BMG.

Timed out .... forgot to mention another option does exist. And that is to make your own DVD-A discs using Adobeman's scripts located here and more info can be obtained on this thread. I've done about 12 compilataions discs averaging 87-92 songs per disc. Albeit 2 channel, it works and I don't have to change discs often. If you're interested in commercial software for DVD-A creation, check here.

I'll 2nd that !!

At least half of the DVD-A discs I've purchased as remakes of albums from the 60's and 70's have crappy re-mixing jobs where their original 2 channel stereo CD's actually sound 10X better in this car. The worst case is Santana Abraxas. It's so bad and fake sounding that I'd like to personally take that DVD-A and shove it right up the ass of the enginer that did it and ask him what he was 'on' when he did it.

Whomever did the remix jobs to the songs on the disc that came with the car knew exactly what they were doing.

I can't help but notice the DVD-A selections in stores like Best Buy have been gradually dwindling, not increasing.

I don't have too many commercial ones since I have made most of mine from CDs but I do like.

Blue Man Group "The Complex". I like this more as a "show off" disk. There are some tracks on that disk that really show off what multi channel can do.

I also have Clapton/BB King disk called "Riding with the King". In addition to being some good blues, this one doesn't show off all the channels but rather shows off a good recording and how good it can sound in our car. Sounds great.

Metallica "Black" is a let down to me. I really thought it would hit much harder. Others think it is better than the CD. I dunno.

I am thinking about trying some Mark Knopfler solo discs. Dire Straights (he played with them) always produced great recordings so I would guess this would continue with his solo efforts. Problem is he may have gone too "folksy" for me.

Adobeman, you might want to check out this site called Quadraphonic Quad. Thanks to oblio98 for providing the link to this site. Basically a forum with reviews on Hi Rez sound like DualDisc, DVD-A, & SACD. Here's the review for Brothers In Arms.

Great site - thanks for all the info. Maybe its me, but why do I have the feeling that DVD-A is going the way of the dodo bird??
